My husband, his 16 year old daughter and I stayed on Mulberry street, near to Spring street, for a week over the Christmas / new year break. We loved the location and all the shops, bars and restaurants that we visited. From small boutique style shops to big designer names, we were spoilt for choice. Regarding the food that we sampled, we were even more spoilt. On our block we ate at Rubirosa (fab new Year's eve pizza!) and the wonderful Grey Dog (which we frequented for every breakfast and at least 2 other meals), whilst we also had a great meal around the corner at Delicatessen. It was a lovely, friendly place with a really interesting mix of shops and homes. We loved it and it would be my first choice if we are lucky enough to visit New York again.

Planning a trip to downtown Manhattan? My friend and I put together an informational video short on one of Manhattan's newest and most stylish neighborhoods, NoLiTa. The acronym stands for North of Little Italy, and hopefully this little segment on YouTube helps put you in the know for your next New York City trip! Click on this link, and happy travels:

A friend told me about this and i brought 10 others to the Nolita/NoHo Food Tasting & Culture on Saturday, June 18th. It was fantastic. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the area and gave us great information about Nolita and NoHo. We tasted the most wonderful foods. The guide was funny and very nice. I had one of the best cupcakes I have ever eaten from the Little Cupcake Bakeshop (and had to go back and buy some for my family). We then had a great big slice of Prosciutto & Arugula pizza that was amazing - from Emporio. I have to say there was not anything I really didn't like. It took about 2-1/2 to 3 hours. You definitely need good walking shoes and I recommend that you don't eat before you go. There definitely was enough food!

The best thing in Nolita, in my opinion, is Old St. Patrick's Cathedral. I often find myself walking through this neighborhood, which is not much bigger than a postage stamp, to get from Greenwich Village to Chinatown. Its location is probably the greatest thing it has going for it. Since real estate agents gave it the name Nolita in the '90s, unfortunately they have been able to charge exorbitant rents and such - before then, it was a cool area to get unusually low rents, often renting from little old Italian landladies who were notoriously resistant to the idea of keeping their buildings from crumbling into the dust. So you take the good from the bad. Check out Old St. Patrick's, and keep moving.

I lived in Nolita for years. It's one of the cutest neighborhoods in NYC! Nolita is just next to Little Italy, Chinatown and Soho. Some of my favorite places to check out are
1.Café Habana - Inexpensive Cuban food. You must order the grilled corn.
2.Gimme! Coffee- on Mott Street between Prince and Spring Street. Best coffee in NYC.
3.Prince Street Pizza- Worth the wait, usually has a long line. Order the Square Pepperoni Pizza! Best Pizza in NYC!
4.Tacombi Fonda Nolita on Elizabeth Street for Tacos.
5. Black Seed Bagels on Elizabeth. Freshly baked bagels. Try the herb cream cheese.
6. Elizabeth Street Garden-It's a community sculpture garden of nearly one acre in the Nolita neighborhood in New York City located on Elizabeth Street, between Prince & Spring streets. Open Daytime only. Really peaceful.
8. Ji Li Tui-Na Center- Best cheap Massage. 202 Mott St. Ask for JJ!

Go to Nolita to see the fashionable people and realize how old and out of touch with style you have become. There are many big name stores where people queue up for the chance to go inside and shop. At the smaller stores you can come and go as you please. Quality Mending Company had interesting vintage clothes and a lot of Bob's Big Boy statues for some reason. Also worth checking out the Housing Works bookstore and thrift shop. Besides shopping, there is some very cool architecture like St. Patrick's Old Cathedral.

Love the ambience, the streets with the trees, the stores, the food... One of the best independent stores. Tom's, Josefinas, Le Labo...

This is my favorite Manhattan neighborhood. It's classic ... old and quaint ... but very hip at the same time. Trendy types should shop in Soho and eat expensively. This is more about neighborhood folk and cool bars and small bistros. It's a beauty! Very safe...great strolling for a family that likes to poke in and out of shops. Little Italy right next door. Spring Street on the 6 train...

A truly quaint, quiet, stylish petite area in which to wander and get lost. Try the scents of Le Labo, grab a dessert at The Little Cupcake Bakeshop, pray in the Old St Patrick's Cathedral + smell the candles and fragnances at Diptyque. Oh! Maybe you'll get a glimpse of Moby as he returns home to his Mott Street Apartment with groceries from Dean + Deluca!
