Soho is still going strong in NYC. Along the Broadway you can find some big name fashion trends. On each streets you see small boutiques, eateries, bars etc. Recently Amazon store opened and always changing in this neighborhood.
Tons of shopping, no bargains though, fantastic selection of great restaurants, cafes, patisseries and art galleries.

Another favorite restaurant of ours, but always crowded and hard to get in...More
Wonderful small town atmosphere within NYC. Narrow cobblestone streets lined with great shopping opportunities. We visited the first ever Real Real brick and mortar store! Close to Greenwich and Tribeca. Very nice walk on a nice day.

Most anywhere in NYC you should check out advanced reservations, as even places that normally don't have reservations may have a New Year's event. Depends what you like, but Arturos on Houston is a great bar with brick oven pizza. There are hundreds of nooks though, so just get there days in advance and walk around different neighborhoods; SoHo has great places, check out the SoHo grand hotel bar on the 2nd floor.
