- Charles SNorthamptonshire, United Kingdom1,039 contributionsA Bridge of HistoryOn our journey from New Jersey to Mystic Connecticut we drove across the double-decked suspension bridge of just under a mile crossing the Hudson River. The bridge is the world's busiest motor vehicle bridge, regularly carrying an annual traffic volume of over 100 million vehicles. It is also the world's only suspension bridge with 14 vehicle lanes. It was the longest main bridge span in the world from 1931 until the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco opened in 1937.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2023
- dbinhou7511Houston, Texas1,652 contributionsHeavy traffic and high costThe bridge was an amazing piece of engineering, but plan to take the day to get across because of the heavy traffic and be prepared for the cost. I guess there are trying to discourage people from driving across, but even at $20 for a visitor it doesn't seem to be working. The trouble with the heavy traffic that the driver has to concentrate on the traffic and can't enjoy the view.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 May 2024

It was much longer than the other Bridges but the view from it was exceptionally good, great feeling of achievement after I finally finished crossing it. I chose to take a bus down to the ferry terminal then took a ferry across the Hudson River back to NYC.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 3 June 2024
- Thomas VOakland, California18,436 contributionsHigh Above the HudsonA very important link between New Jersey and New York. It carries I-95 and links New England with the Mid-Atlantic states. As a result, this bridge is often clogged with traffic especially as you travel East and into the very congest Cross-Bronx Expressway. The bridge is big and is high above the Hudson River.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 August 2024

This is the worst bridge! It is very expensive, the traffic is horrible which makes commuting painful. It is in a very bad condition, dirty, overgrown weeds are everywhere. Someone is the owner and someone must be responsible for it.

The George Washington Bridge is a mess!!!! Avoid it at all costs!!! More than 95% of the time, there are 45 minutes delays in the weekday mornings. Seemingly, the organization that operates it has done little to nothing to improve the flow of traffic.

We crossed the bridge on our way to Connecticut. The wait time was nearly 30 minutes to cross over into New York and the traffic on other side was worse going to the Cross Bronx expressway. Look out for price increase. Ouch!

We crossed the GWB to NJ. There was no traffic going to the bridge but the traffic getting there was horrendous. A tractor trailer was involved in an accident that spilled all the contents of paper goods on the road. Everyone had to watch the cleanup crews use a bucket loader to fill up a dump truck. WOW what a me!

Fix the potholes in the road. The winter 🥶 weather and salt has caused large sections of road to be removed. These potholes are treacherous. We just had a front end alignment done. Please fix the roads soon.

I had to cross the bridge to get to an early morning meeting in Hackensack. With all going on the bridge was easy to cross. Usually there's plenty of traffic on the bridge at 7am in both directions.
FYI - going towards NYC, there is a small Starbucks store with a drive thru on RT 4.

We crossed the bridge early in the morning but there a lot of truckers on the road. The road surface was very bumpy due to age, wear and tear from all of the traffic crossing the bridge over the years. Glad we traveled early to avoid the rush hour traffic.

Actually this was something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I just wasn't sure how to get to the starting point from the NJ side til recently. I first stopped at the Ft Lee Historical Park (not listed to post a review) where I parked & walked one of the trails before coming back to walk the GWB pedestrian & bike path. You can only walk the south side (Rt hand side of bridge coming from NJ) from 6am til 11:59pm. North end is closed. Not sure if it's temporary or permanent though. A nice view of the NJ Palisades & NY skyline. Walking the length of the bridge & back took me an hour, but I stopped to take a number of pictures. Can probably be done leisurely in 40-45. There is a police presence there with a satellite booth & walk patrol. It's a nice walk. Especially on a beautiful day. Just be mindful of bikers coming out of the narrow paths of the 2 bridge structures.

Where can you park your car if you wish to walk across the bridge? Anywhere close by?
Written 1 July 2019
I believe that all bridges (where you are allowed to walk across) are free. Including the GW bridge

Hi, I'm driving a rental car and don't have any E-Zpass to enter the toll thru George Washington bridge. Can anyone advise me if there is any cash-payment lane on this toll? Thank you.
Written 17 May 2017
Yes. Cash lanes are clearly marked and are the two right side lanes,
