You can easily visit the lighthouse when you visit the Cabrillo National Monument. It's a short walk. You can go inside and look around. There are walking paths and the views are beautiful.

My husband and I love lighthouses so they are always on our must-see list. This one is small but worthwhile to visit. You can see the grounds and learn about how water was collected and stored on the island as well as go into the little keeper's house and the lighthouse itself. The whole park is full of information and history, as well as some of the best views and a lot of birds. The lighthouse is part of the National Park so there is a fee to enter unless you have one of the National Park passes.

Worth the visit just get there early or you’re going to be in a long line to even get in. They do charge so that’s the reason for the line

I did a quick visit of the lighthouse. I hope I look as good as I start truly aging! There is something quite significant about Point Loma as it is....and then you get to look at its' landmark...so rich in legacy and love.

Honestly, A little boring. 15 minutes is plenty of time to see the whole thing. The top of the lighthouse was locked off and would have added another star to this review. Luckily there is a lot of things to do and amazing views all around the lighthouse.

We enjoyed our visit to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. Built in the 1850s, it's an interesting piece of history that you can tour. They have the original lighthouse lens weighing in at nearly 2,000 pounds on display. We were able to tour the lighthouse and climb all the winding steps. Rooms are historically decorated so you can see how the lighthouse keeper and his family once lived here. The lighthouse ended up being replaced because this one was built in the wrong place and was difficult to see. The views from this area are fantastic and worth seeing. We tried to visit the tide pools, but they said it was the wrong time of year to see them since the tides were too high. We paid $20 for our vehicle to enter, and you pass a pretty military cemetery on the drive up. Our pass was good for multiple days which worked out great because we ran out of time the first day and came back again the next. Highly recommend for anyone interested in history or someone who just enjoys gorgeous views.

One of my favorite places in San Diego. The lighthouse is neat but the views! One side is the bay and the other the ocean. Great view of Corando.

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse is located in the southern tip of Point Loma. It’s the sentinel of San Diego bay!
We learnt that the old lighthouse:
- is as high as 422 feet above sea level!
- - was built in 1855 and in 1891, the light was extinguished and the keeper moved to a new lighthouse.
We were amazed by the wonderful panoramic viewpoints on downtown San Diego, Coronado, Pacific ocean and on the Mexican mountains of Tijuana!!! Unfortunately, we did not have time enough to go to the Point Loma Tide Pools and walk along the adjacent bluffs.

I haven't seen many lighthouses in my life, but I thought it was great seeing this one. It is awesome seeing the large light in the house beside it. I liked the walking path to get to the lighthouse; it had breathtaking views of all of San Diego.

Does it cost to go in the lighthouse?

You pay a fee to get into the Carrillo National Monument Park. I think it was like $10. But once you're past the gate then everything else is free. There is no additional fee to go into the lighthouse, or the visitor center or the tidepools.
