About
Although this park is located within San Diego's city limits, it remains one of the wildest landscapes along the Southern California coast, with miles of unspoiled beaches, chaparral, elegant Torrey Pine trees and a lagoon vital to many species of migrating birds.

It was super foggy during our visit and therefore not very crowded. I'm sure it was a nice area if only the weather would have cooperated

The park has a rugged, natural look with beautiful views of the pacific. I visited on a very cloudy day unfortunately but it was still enjoyable. You will need good walking/hiking shoes to really explore the trails.
Try to visit on a clear day, you will not be disappointed. I will definitely visit again when I'm on the west coast.

I'm not a hiker, but I loved the Guy Fleming Trail. It was the highlight of the trip. The views can't be beat!

If you like to hike, you have to hike at Torrey Pines! Go on a clear day when you can see the beautiful ocean from the top of the cliffs. I once even saw a beached whale. It gets busy on weekends, so if possible, go during the week.

I had read so much about the Guy Fleming Trail that it became a "must" for us. No disappointments there. Great views while strolling through a number of different habitats: scrub, chaparral, and woodland.
After, we walked the beach and enjoyed looking at the sculpted cliffs. The beach rocks wee interesting, as we do not have them on the east coast, at least at the many beaches that I've been to.

Lots of scenery and views of the ocean. The hikes range from easy walking to some difficult terrain. Come prepared with good boots and water bottles. You will be glad you did.

This is a good location if you enjoy hiking that is still close to the city and has good scenery. The reserve is home to the Torrey Pine, which is a species that is only found near the San Diego coast.

I convinced my family of 6 to go take the Guy Flemming Trail in the Torrey Pines nature preserve and it was worth every minute!! Our family is not typically the "hiking family" type or the "camping family" type, but we really had a great time walking the Guy Flemming Trail here. It was a beautiful day, and the views were fantastic. Our kids range in age of 9, 7, 4, and 2 and honestly, our younger two did better than our older two (our oldest is becoming a pre-teen so wasn't overly thrilled with our idea of a hike, and maybe that's because we had just done Legoland the day before and he wanted to go back, LOL). The road up the hill to the trail was closed to cars, so we all had to walk up it, that was probably the worst part of the "experience" as the younger kids got tired easily on the hill. Understandable. Next time we would consider using a carry-pack for the younger one and strap her on one of us as we didn't bring a stroller (and it really wasn't feasible). But once we got to the start of the trail, she did great walking the pathway for part and riding on one of our backs for the other part. Afterwards, we got back to our car (paid for parking), and regrouped and then explored the beautiful beach at the bottom. It was truly an amazing day for our family.

Every time we are in town we hit this park. Hard to believe how convenient it is with such a dramatic landscape. Incredible views.

There are many things to do here. It has both great beaches and miles of walking trails. The bathrooms were clean and there is a picnic area

Hi we want to know more about hiking time. How much time should we spare to visit Torrey Pines and how long the hiking trails are? We have a 7 years old.

With a 7 year old I would pay for the parking at the top of the hill. We were there on a weekday and paid $10 and then we went on a holiday and the fee went up to $20. But if you park in the free parking by the time you hike up to the trails your 7 year old will be exhausted. The interpretive center has some fun hands on exhibits that I would recommend checking out too. Plan for at least a couple of hours to explore.

Where should we ask UBER driver to drop us off if we want to hike?

I would ask the Uber to drop off nearby where you enter and pay to park. From there you can hike the trails or just go for a stroll on the beach

Hi! Is this a nice place to bring a one and a half year old? We have a jogging stroller that has all terrain wheels. Thanks!

Hi! I wanted to follow up about this post. I ended up going with my husband and daughter - it was beautiful! We lucked out with a parking spot at the top and did the Razor Point Trail then Guy Fleming. Pushing the stroller around especially backup hill after Guy Fleming was tough but well worth it! I’d recommend it for anyone with a jogging stroller, lots of sun screen, and the strength to carry a stroller up and down a couple stairs!

what are fees for picnic?

I think it’s 10-15$ to get a car into the state park. No fee to picnic.
That being said it’s not much of an easy walk to the beach with picnic gear. The park is up high altitude wise where you walk down to the beach.
I would recommend you arrive on a week day and go for a lunch picnic just outside of the park. Same beautiful views, parking is free and the walk is 20-30 yds vs almost a mile.

Would this be a good hike in Nov? Is it cold and windy by the coast? Thank you!

I happen to be in San Diego, and the weather is wonderful. There are storms coming in, so I would suggest that you bring with you some sort of light coat.

I'm not familiar with those names and I don't see them on the current hiking maps.
