If you're planning a visit to the USS Midway Museum, then I would take a few extra minutes to walk along the rest of the Embarcadero. Otherwise, it's not necessarily worth the trip just to walk along. There are a few good photo ops along the way, but the crowds and homeless population make it less desirable.

Pleasant walk along past the marina after we dropped our rental car off at the airport. Only 30 minutes and your back in the heart of San Diego.

A wonderful venue, excellent catering phenomenal crew with golf carts to help older guests, great sound. The only downside were the porta pottys. They did not have lights in the potty so you had to use your camera to light the area. I was terrified that I would lose my IPhone 5 into the muck. The hand washing station was complicated and required one person to pump the water while the other person can wash their hands. This was a minor inconvenience but other than that it was super great.

I don't live by the sea side - for me it is always interesting to walk beside the sea, enjoy the sunshine and the salty winds of the sea.
This place for me it is very nice to take a walk (typically to limit the effects of jet-leg) right after my arrival to San Diego. It is a lovely place to stretch your legs after the long trips (mine typically are in the range of 18-22 hours to get to San Diego).
As you can walk around there are several places where you can stop - here are a few in case you've been wondering:
- fish market
- the USS Midway
- the USS San Diego Memorial
- Taffy 3 Memorial
- Seaport Village - here you get a coffee, snack, lunch or diner - shop for souvenirs.
You got benches along the walkway - you can to enjoy the view of the boats - or of the bay.
Also if you come by car you have parking options available.
Overall a very nice place to take a walk and for me it is really interesting.

It’s a nice pleasant walk that wraps around a spot with some small shops but nothing super special. The views are alright but I wouldn’t come here twice unless you’re taking a boat out to Coronado from the ship terminal there.

I rented a bike, and road the entire length of the Embarcadero, two days in a row. Great views, and very nice conditions. The only issue is where the path goes through Seaside Village Shopping area. No bike rising allowed-have to walk. They should make a bike path through the parking areas to allow riding.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt and all this is an easy walk from the hotel. Cruise ships, ferries, plenty of boats, and a few famous ships here.
Major attraction is the aircraft carrier USS Midway. It’s close to the main railway station Santa Fe, should you need to use the train.

You can just stroll, roller blade, or ride in one of the rented bikes where someone else has to do the pedaling. The sights of the boats out sailing and Navy or cargo ships or cruise ships coming in is great. There is the San Diego Maritime Museum with the Star of India (the oldest active sailing ship in the world), the ferryboat Berkeley, the HMS Surprise (used in the movie Master and Commander), a Russian sub and a US submarine, the State tallship Californian, the steam yacht Media, and (the boat that you can tour the bay for a small fee) Pilot. The Midway aircraft carrier museum is also there. There are many restaurants as well.

Great place to shop, eat and enjoy the views. We've been there several times and it's always fun to go back.

Love San Diego...even thought it was a busy weekend, we found a nice parking at the Seaport Village. A lot of stuff to see with a lot of attractions relatively close for a family stroll. The sights were impressive and the atmosphere is relaxing. Can wait to go back and explore some more. Enjoy San Diego!

Planning a 3-day trip to San Diego Thanksgiving week - probably staying at a VRBO near Mission Beach - can we get to downtown area/Midway with public transit or do we need a rental car? Thanks...

I would advise you to go to the public bus web site to get the 100% assurance that you can do this. Sometimes it is hard to find parking space. Or else you need to pay more than what you want.

I walked to the Embarcadero from our hotel in Union Square. Street parking is tough in any city but there are parking garages in the area.
