Loved it
What a great atmosphere. I could have just walked through all the plants. It was beautiful. Staff was friendly. Areas were clean. Food was basic but good. Beverages were super high priced. That was a bummer on a hot day. A bottle of coke was about 4.49 can't do that. Haha

One of the best zoos in the world
Jun 2021
We live near the zoo and visit often. It's an unending wonder, full of beautiful and interesting animals and flora.
I wish more people would take the bus, so the zoo could use some of its vast parking lot for more exhibits.

It’s always a lovely time
Sep 2021 • Family
It was a beautiful day. We went with a big group (20 ppl) of international students (adults) and we enjoyed it very much. We were able to walk around the whole park within 9-3pm. We had a 30 min break to eat lunch and didn’t get on the buses (except skytram one way) which I believe are free. Around noon, most of the animals were napping or inside so we did miss a handful of animals. They sell adult beverages in some of the food places. They refilled my personal water bottle with no problem, and there are water fountains in random places. They allow you to bring your own snacks and water bottles (no straws). You do get a discount with a zoo pass membership (the discount amnt is dependent on the type of membership you get). The avg cost of food per adult is $15, a drink about $5+, and children about $10. Dont be upset if you miss the polar bears, as this is South Cali and the weather is warm. They normally aren’t out and about in the heat (70-85F). The orangutan 🦧 exhibition is currently closed for renovation (amongst a handful of others), and there are no giant pandas at this time. Employees wore face mask but the majority of guests were not. I do recommend wearing hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. There are a lot of hills, so prepare those muscles if you’re pushing a stroller or grandma. They do offer electric scooters for a rental price. Hopefully this helps answer general questions.

Beautiful Zoo, Volunteers Rock! Accessibility = 2 Thumbs Up!
Sep 2021
The bus tour / overview of the zoo grounds was helpful. I loved that there were so many volunteers/staff at every turn because we got lost a few times. Not to mention the fact that at several of the large animal viewing sites, there was a volunteer or staff member who provided us with facts and information and fascinating stories about the animal. Specifically, Betsy at the Gorilla area, and another lady at the Komodo Dragon area. That really does make the visit so much more fun and memorable!

The ECV for my disabled husband made this visit possible for us to do together.

We are originally from San Antonio, and were curious how it would compare to our zoo there. Loved that SD has several large animals that we haven't seen before in SA. Felt like Jurassic Park just by sheer size!

Awesome and beautiful for people who love nature

Wonderful experience. It’s a zoological park as well as a botanical garden. I could walk around for days. Get a membership it’s the best deal both parks everyday of the year plus free parking at safari park (zoo already has free parking) and discounts, then you could make shorter trips take your time since there’s so much to see and do.

A miss do in San Diego
I got there right at opening and took the bus tour to start and see where I wanted to go back a re visit after. I then after walked the entire zoo, it was a lot of fun, I was solo as my husband was in work sessions all day. Everyone was friendly and I had a wonderful time speaking with the people working there and I learned quite a bit about certain animals.

Fun to walk around, small enclosures
Sep 2021
Fun to walk around, a lot of animals. I was expecting it to seem more humane than other zoos. I always heard the San Diego zoo had very large enclosures for their animals. This was not the case. Still very much felt like animals in cages.

Fun at the Zoo!
We loved the zoo. We took the free tour bus an sky tram. It was very clean nd not too busy. My main issue was in trying to read the maps and signposts. It was obvious many of us were having the same issue.🤔

It was good

It was good. Might consider more open food places and rental strollers that are more accessible to buses. Love the animals. They look well taken care of :)
