This is such a great place to visit. The rose garden is lovely. It's huge and there's much to see. You can spend the whole day here. We did go on a Monday and most of the museums were closed but we did enjoy walking around seeing the gardens & just hanging out. We also enjoyed the Globe area where the arts and plays are held. We grabbed a snack at the coffee shop open which was quite good. It was connected to the Folk art gift shop which also had a few pieces to see. The best thing about it was free. We loved it and the Rose garden alone was a stand out. You will definitely get your steps in visiting this very large area.

Like most of San Diego, it was invaded by crazy homeless people. We had to pass several sleeping homeless with their precious belongs scattered around. Then there was the homeless guy on his bike talking loudly to himself riding inside the buildings and another one who was bathing in a fountain.

So much to do. The San Diego Zoo is a must. The park is huge and you'll need a car or bike to get around

This place is sketch...lots of homeless people (which is very sad). Not what I expected. I wouldn't go here alone, definitely wouldn't go at night.

I always try to visit Balboa Park when I have free time in San Diego as there’s always something there I haven’t seen before. This is the first time I’ve walked from downtown (ca 45 minutes from Petco Park) and found it a nice jaunt to start my day. We only strolled the Prada after enjoying the rose and desert gardens but it was still a lovely way to spend a few hours chatting with family in a beautiful setting.

Balboa park is a very beautiful park with a zoo, museums, fountains and gardens. The park is beautifully landscaped and designed with lots to admire and trails to explore. The gardens are beautiful. It would take several days to really experience all of the greatness that this park has to offer. I only had a day so I saw as much as possible.
Be prepared to walk.
FYI - We visited on a weekday and the park was practically empty with tons of parking which made the experience so much better.
My son who lives in the area said to avoid on the weekend because of crowds and lack of parking.

If you live here, the annual Balboa pass is fantastic- it's about $125, and gets you into the museums all year long. The hours have been cut since they reopened, but I'll take what I can get. Be sure to walk down into the canyons- it's a great walk, and generally cooler than up on street level. You can also walk under the bridge by walking down the trail from the dog park- stay on the upper level trail and it's surprisingly quiet (there's a fork, if you go low you're right next to the cars on the freeway).

We walked around Balboa Park for an hour or so. There are interesting sites to see - architecture of some buildings is very impressive. The street vendors are interesting as well.

This is a huge area with a lot to see.
There is a lot of parking around, and be prepared to walk around a bit to all the gardens, fountains, museums, and vendors.
We ate at The Prado, which was great.
For gardens, we especially loved the rose garden, which was next to a really cool desert cactus garden.
If you come on a weekend in May, be prepared for literally hundreds of prom kids taking pictures!
