Captain John W. Gunnison entered this area of Colorado in 1853, heading an exploratory expedition. He found the area "agreeable and exhilarating..." Shortly afterwards, the expedition passed into Utah, where they were killed by the Utes. Gunnison Pioneer museum takes good three to four hours...More

As museums go it falls in the middle for me. They had several buildings to tour and one main building with lots of artifacts and history objects of different eras. When we went in 6/07 they only took cash or check no debit/credit cards so...More

Tons of antiques and interesting items! Not just a pioneer museum! Our favorite was the old schoolhouse! They have a huge building full of antique cars!

Many old buildings, like several other places, but a couple of unique ones. There was a very old post office and an old school building with a tower. Very good car collections.

If you have an interest in history of the pioneer this is quite a museum. Great for train history and car history buffs too. Only $10 for adults to get in and is well worth it.

The admission charge was $10 - well worth it. There is something for everyone on display - and items are clearly marked. Plan on spending at least one or two hours here.

We were amazed to find a hidden gem in Gunnison, so many buildings full of historic items. We only had an hour, but tried to take as much in as possible. To fully enjoy this museum you need to spend several hours.

We stumbled onto this “gold mine” of a museum as we were headed out of Gunnison. What a great afternoon we had there. The range of displays is phenomenal. It was well named by a prior reviewer: the Smithsonian of the West!

I believe it was $10 for adults and $3 for kids. I don't remember the ages considered kids.
