Was a beautiful day when we visited. Nice photo area. When the fog rolls in, photo ops are greatly reduced. Could spend real time reading placards in the area.

That's one of the must seen landmarks of San Francisco. Be careful because it can be so windy over there. We took the bus and got off at the parking lot. We then walked to Fort Point. It's a free museum and offers a nice view when you're on their rooftop. The assurance to take some pictures with no tourist!

This is an amazing structure that is beautiful from all areas that it can be seen. There are several places to stop for pictures & places to stop and learn about the history of the bridge.

Amazing structure from all angles. Drove across it on tours and by car. We drove below on the Marin county side and we’re able to see the underside of it and also drove up to a lookout point on the San Francisco side to look down on it.

San Francisco is the first place I lived in the US and it will always be close to my heart. Golden Gate bridge is an iconic bridge of the world and rightly so. You can get amazing views of the bridge from the parking lots or you can also park and walk on the bridge to get a feel of it. When you drive through the bridge, it is an amazing feeling to look up at it. It looks magnificent on the rare sunny days but also looks magical covered in the clouds of the bay. There are so many tours, some that cross the bridge over to Sausalito by foot or on a bike and some on boats under the bridge with amazing sunsets and a full view of the skyline of the city. There is a fort there as well and lots of parks and areas to walk and stroll, even ride a bike and walk your dogs. I LOVE this bridge!

Majestic towers tower over our car as we drove over the bridge. Memories of my father sailing under this bridge as a scared 17 yr old soldier who wound up in Korean War. Cool experience.

Fantastic place to see this iconic sight. Park nearby offers lots of angles, great amenities, and opportunities to explore up close and from farther away.

Can I walk across the bridges and take a bus back across? We want to go over today but it’s raining pretty consistently so only want to walk one way and get ride back.
Thanks

As a past resident and frequent visitor of the GG Bridge, Fort Point, Sausalito I transversed the bridge many times. The best one way walk excursion would be to get a lift from the S.F. side to the North side and walk back across for free enjoying the view of S.F. Don’t forget there are historic sites under the bridge at both ends that make for great pictures of the bridge and city.

Is their an area where i can take a selfie with the bridge in the background? If so where would i stand in order to get most of the entire bridge in the background of ny photo when i go to visit?

Yes, there are places on both sides of the bridge at the Scenic lookout... on the City side, you can take a selfie all along the path on the East side of the bridge with the best picture standing at the path where it splits between the "walking side of the bridge" and the path going under the bridge for bike riders. On the West lookout point, you can take a selfie all along the parking lot stone wall.

I am landing in the San Fran lnternational terminal at 12:45pm with a domestic flight departing from the same airport at 8pm.
Please can I have an idea of the most efficient way to see (best views) and walk the bridge, before grabbing a crab chowder at the dock and returning to the airport. I probably have 2-3 clear hours.
Thanks!

That's a resounding yes as my first time seeing it was at night.Magical with the mists hovering over it.The bus 92 and 93 should get you there.Enough time to still take a long walk all the way to see the Palace of Fine Arts if you are up for it.

Go at night? What is the best way to see it at night? Is there a bus?

Bus is best and safest way around at night otherwise take an Uber for a round trip! It’s a must even though you don’t have much time. Enjoy.

I’ve biked the bridge multiple times, however I will be back with friends who have not experienced this must do activity. However, we will be visiting in the heart of winter, the second week of February and I fear it will be so cold on the bridge that we will not be able to enjoy ourselves? Has anyone biked in the winter months? If so, how was it for amateur bikers? TIA

We did it 2 weeks ago (Fisherman's Wharf-Sausalito - up Marin Heights and back to the city). The key is layers of workout gear that you can swap around . There are some steep climbs in the vicinity of the bridge which keep you nice and warm!!!But you will need a couple of layers and warm jacket if you stop . It was cold but blue sky when we did it-specatcular!

I am curious how wide the bike lane/path over the bridge is? And how much distance between the lane and the edge of the bridge? We have one in our group that is not fond of heights.........TYIA

The width of the west side crossing (open weekends), is about 10 to 12 feet wide. When riding since your focus is straight ahead, the edge view doesn't really affect riders. The usual morning fog can also serve as good cover for any edge view concerns.
