It was ok.. not worth the money
Apr 2021 • Family
We had paid for a dolphin encounter package for 2 adults and 1 teenager. Be warn due to COVID there is no swimming with the dolphins. You will briefly touch the dolphin and learn about their anatomy. The whole time the staff will focus on the pictures they will be taking which will be put for sale at the end of the activity. Honestly the pictures are overpriced!! We paid around $350 in pictures. I will never do that again! All together the encounter package and pictures summed up to around $700... just to briefly touch the dolphin and take pictures. We could have invested that many on something else. Save your money and do something else worth the money!

Sea Life Park Hawaii Luau
May 2021
I've been to several luaus over the years as I've travelled to Hawaii but this was easily my favorite. Surrounded by a natural amphitheater of the Koolau Mountains to our backs as we face the main stage, which itself is set in front a beautiful ocean view, it made for a very magical atmosphere that really elevated the experience. The dancers and musicians were incredible. The food was good and the drinks were strong. Highly recommend!

They take your money, but don’t provide services

Booked dolphin encounter via website. Received a confirmation. Charged my credit card. We were denied entry. Was told that website confirmation was not valid. We paid round trip for transportation. For nothing. Asked to speak with a manager, never received the courtesy of a return call . We were treated very poorly. Still haven’t received a refund. So far I’m out hundreds of dollars with no word from the park. Beware.

So much fun!
May 2021
My family and I really enjoyed visiting this park. We had a blast. My favorite part was seeing the cute dolphins and feeding the birds. It is a small park but that doesn’t take away from the fun and beauty of it. I was suggest going earlier when they open so you can see all of the shows and really get your money’s worth. If you’re like me and love sea life then I think this would a cool spot to check out.

Worth the drive experience of a lofetime

The dolphin experience is worth every Penny!!! Our guides were very knowledgeable encouraged questions and as always got you in the Aloha spirit. Because we wanted to marvel at all the park has to offer I would like to see the park have earlier opening times and later closing times however I do understand times need to differ due to the luau. We purchased the celebrity experience for the luau and again the entertainment, cultural learning experience and overall experience was something I will never forget. My husband never gets excited about anything but hands down cord to do this again. It is a little difficult to get around with a wheelchair and would like to recommend motorized wheelchair rentals but the staff take care of you. Thank you Steve and to the security person who sat with us until we. Oils find a lift at 1000 you made sure we were safe. Mahalo from the bottom of our hearts!!!!

Animal Environments Dirty, Customer Experience Poor. Dolphin Encounter a disappointment! Clean up needed ASAP!
Mar 2021
I am SO disappointed in the dolphin encounter experience and the dolphin habitat Sealife Park is providing. The experience was truly "all about the photos" and of course they are not included in your experience. Long story short, when we left the pool it was so dirty we had algae all over our legs -- almost looked as if we had not shaved in months -- like little hairs. I feel for the dolphins that have to swim around in that dirty water every single day. Not to mention that the Sealife Park dolphin trainer was spewing misinformation -- stating that dolphins in captivity live longer than dolphins in the wild which is just not true.

I have participated in dolphin swims in different locations around the world and this was by far the worst. There were 18 people signed up for the "swim" and we were split into two groups. We were told to go down to the platform and shuffle across the platform because there was so much algae that if you tried to walk you would fall down. Our hour experience can be summed up by 3 encounters with a dolphin or walphin (half whale half dolphin). We got to touch the dolphin for about 5 seconds on three different occasions all while smiling for the camera while they took your picture. It was not an experience I could recommend to anyone. Please go give the Kahala your business until Sealife Park works out their program to have better customer experience AND better life environment for their poor dolphins. The trainer would ask if we had questions then dismiss them. It was like she was required to ask but not answer. Pretty poor!

I love that Oahu has a park like Sealife Park for residents and tourists alike to enjoy. However, the park is not being maintained up to standard for the tourists or the animals who live there. I'm not sure if this is due to covid, but these animals deserve better. The empty monk seal exhibit is disgusting and even though there are no animals in it, it needs to be cleaned so it doesn't get even more out of hand!

Aloha, Mahalo for your feedback. We are always looking for ways to improve our Dolphin encounter to provide a well rounded, educational, and fun experience for our guests. We will pass your feedback along to management and also our trainers. Please rest assured that our top priorities are the safety and welfare of the animals and we work with organizations such as the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, USDA, the Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Marine Fisheries Service-all responsible for ensuring the safety of our animal family. The algae growth is a result of a more natural habitat approach as the algae reduces sunlight reflectivity, promoting optimal eye health and dampening the ambient noise level in our environments. We don't use chemicals to keep our water clean, as you would normally find in a typical swimming pool, to keep our animals safe. We are currently looking into safe ways to reduce the growth of algae to make the encounters more enjoyable for our guests, yet still provide a healthy environment for our animals. Not Worth It.
Feb 2020
My friend and I visited the Sea Life Park as part of our Go Oahu Pass mostly because it was right down the street from the Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail and we hiked that. We were there for maybe an hour, which was definitely more than enough time.

We probably could have spent more time there but the day we visited, they had cancelled pretty much all of their shows and presentations. They also close a couple of the exhibits from 12:00 - 1:00/1:30 and we arrived shortly before this so we had to rush through those.

The exhibits themselves were lackluster. The seabird exhibit had three birds. There were no penguins, only one sea lion. Several of the exhibits had sea turtles in them, whether or not they were designated as such. Most of our enjoyment came from watching others do their dolphin swim excursion and feeding the birds - that was actually pretty fun.

We attended the luau earlier in the week and really enjoyed that but we arrived too late to walk through the park then. They gave us complimentary tickets to come back, which we appreciated, but we used our Go Oahu Pass instead. Had we paid for this separately, we would have wanted our money back!

If you love animals, don't go here.
Jan 2020
Went to Sea Life Park before going to the Luau which was attached to the park. We did take advantage of their transportation as I did not want to drive more than I had to (especially on the winding roads). Our pick up was not until 12:20pm, but around 11:50am the driver called us asking if we were ready. I explained we were just in the hotel room but asked if our pick up was actually at 12:20pm or if we got it wrong. He told us our pick up was indeed at 12:20pm but "I'm here now." and asked us to come down as soon as we could. I get wanting to be a little early, but 30 minutes is a bit excessive.

The park itself was lack luster. In fact I left at the end of the day feeling absolutely sad and heartbroken for the animals.

Starting from the beginning, whenever you check in the first place you enter is a giant fish tank with multiple sharks and an array of fish inside. It looked like they were getting close to feeding time. Either that or they were just teasing the sharks so they'd come out for the visitors. Honestly not a bad start.

Once we got into the park itself the first thing you will see is a Sea Turtle enclosure. It was a big open top tank for you to be able to see them and lean over. If you really wanted you could reach out and touch them (But they ask you not to do that so you don't lose a finger or something). It was a decent sized tank, but in my opinion there were FAR too many turtles in that tank. I mean it was so crowded in there they were constantly swimming into / over each other. There was one turtle who was up on the 'shore' part of the enclosure. Upon first looking at the turtle it looked like it was sunbathing. After looking at it some more it looked either injured, sick, or dead. I wasn't entirely sure. But it sure didn't move for many, many, hours.

Next we'll move on to the Penguins. The penguins tank was AWFUL. I understand they probably can't replace this stuff often but the glass itself was so dirty and so scratched up that you could not see into the water. Not that this mattered, the penguins did not want to play. At all. From what I could see there were 2 penguins in the enclosure. We checked up on them several times during the day and the whole time we were there (at least 7 hours) they remained in the back corner, huddled together like they did not want to be seen. The only time I actually saw them was during the Sea Lion show.

The bird enclosure was a fun activity. They gave you little sticks with feed on them and the birds who didn't mind humans would come up and eat from your hand. On the surface it was an enjoyable experience to get to be so close to them, and we got some cute pictures from them! But the longer you are there the more you realize it's not all cute. There are at least a hundred birds in this enclosure, probably more. And unfortunately not all of them were healthy. There were at least a dozen of birds on the ground, clearly in distress. Like, loose or losing feathers, barely able to stand, not wanting any food or water offered them ect. When I pointed this out to the attendant asking if they could be taken to be looked at they told me not to worry about it. Not to worry about it?? These are animals in your care! That seems like something that should be worried about! I guess because they are birds they do not deserve the same amount of treatment.

The Dolphins. Dolphins are cute, won't even deny that! But this was another case of the "Yikes". There was one dolphin that was distanced from the others, she was mix (I can't recall of what though). She was being isolated from the others because she was being bullied is what I was told. She had scratched up her side, and fresh bleeding wounds. And even though she was being builled they still brought her out for the shows, then put her right back into Isolation afterwards. I guess as long as she can preform that is all that really matters.

And finally, the Sea Lions. Most specifically the male sea lion. There was a male sea lion kept in an area by himself. This dude was MASSIVE. He mostly just swam in circles but watching him broke my heart. Every now and then while he was swimming he would just intentionally run himself into the wall of his enclosure. And I mean it looked HARD. He, like many of the other animals there, had scars all over his body, and some fresh wounds.

I am glad I did not pay to go here and that it was included in my Luau ticket. Honestly this was a heartbreaking place to be. It seemed clear to me that the animals had the bare minimum being done to take care of them. I would never recommend this to anyone.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Hawaii. We booked tickets for the Sea Lion Swim and Dolphin Encounter. Both were wonderful! The park is beautiful and we had so much fun seeing the turtles, birds, dolphins, sea lions, etc. The park is very clean and the employees were very helpful and friendly. We took a bus from Downtown Honolulu that they provided and it was a nice way to see some of the island. Would definitely recommend!

Great Shows for young children
Mar 2020 • Family
We had two kids under 2 traveling with us and they were amazed by the dolphin and sea lion show, but so was I. They do a great job at this venue and have a lot to see. You only need about an hour to visit but I would suggest making it during the shows.
