We had extra time before we caught our flight so headed up to Iao Valley State Park and found this little treasure just before it.
Well maintained. Beautiful gardens paying homage to the Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Portuguese settlers.
Peaceful and a great place to learn about the island’s history.

It's cool to see gardens from different cultures. However, some of the gardens were better maintained than others. I think a small entrance fee would improve the quality.
This is a nice detour if you're nearby, but not worth a long drive.

There are Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Portuguese heritage gardens that are quite interesting. But the magnificent scenery is what makes this place special. Mist covered, ridged, mountains all around and a gushing stream. No admission charge. Plentiful, clean restrooms.

Beautiful views of the valley. We even saw goats! There are restrooms on site. Basically a nice picnic area w fantastic views. We didn’t spend a lot of time there but was a cool view. Easy to park in the lot.

Had the opportunity to stop by the park and get and out walk in the afternoon. The clouds were forming around the peaks and offered a refreshing and majestic ambiance. The setting is peaceful and a pleasant place to spend some time.

Just go again...and experience serenity, beautiful gardens and pavilions, Iao stream. Take a picnic and stay longer. Don’t forget to take your camera for a walk!

Free admission. Park commemorates the various different ethnic groups that have settled in Hawaii. Interesting and a nice serence spot. Nice views of the West Maui mountains...

The Heritage park features small pavilions built by ethnocultural groups to celebrate their heritage and history on Maui. There are no guides of multimedia shows, so don't go if you need flash. Locals do like to go there for picnics, and there is a nature center nearby. Note: mosquitoes are sometimes voracious.

We stopped in after visiting Iao and were very happy we did. This park is a tribute to those cultures who immigrated or were forced to the island. Very loving tributes throughout the park.
There’s some homelessness apparent in the park - it didn’t take away from the experience.

We brought a picnic lunch and stopped here after our hike at Iao Valley. After lunch, we explored the trails and found natural streams where we all jumped in for a refreshing swim. The water was fresh and clear and no one wanted to get out. On the next spot up from us, there were kids jumping into the water too. What a beautiful way to spend a few hours. The houses were not open but neat to observe the different styles of the explorers from different parts of the world who stopped in Hawaii. Just a tip though... if you stop here, bring some bug spray as we all left with a few mosquito bites. There are also clean bathrooms to change after your swim.

Can someone confirm or deny that Kepaniwai park & Heritage gardens in open or still closed. The last post said it was going to open April 10, but I don't see confirmation of that on the Maui county parks web site.
