The drive on the road to Hana is pretty crazy but the black sand beach is beautiful. Saw some australian Mongeese running around the park as well.

Near mile marker #32 on Hana Road. Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach isn't that special. It might be interesting if you haven't seen any other black sand beach, but if you did you could skip this stop, unless you have a lot of time to kill...More

The state park has so much to offer. Definitely one of the highlights on the Road to Hana! Try to get an early start to reach the park before the crowds!

The key to this park is timing. If you are staying in Hana, get here at 8 and have the place almost to yourself. If you are driving the road to Hana parking may be a challenge. The black sand beach and lava tube cave...More

We had a picnic lunch here, a lot of tables available. We were interested by the feral cats that were begging for handouts and the mongooses hanging out nearby. In addition to the black sands of the beach, there is a blowhole and a large...More

The Park was absolutely beautiful! Breathtaking even. Definitely a must see/do. We drove the perilous “road to Hana” and I would only advise skilled drivers to make the drive, but worth it when you arrive. Different review...back to the Park. The black sand was amazing...More

My husband and I stayed the longest time at this spot on the Road to Hana. There is just a lot to see. We waded into the water on the black sand beach (which is gorgeous) but the water is pretty rough so I am...More

Loved this State Park and wished we could have stayed longer. We were on a small group tour and stopped for about hour to look around. Loved the lava tube which comes out to the sea so could get good photos while inside. The beach...More

This could be like any other beach in Hawaii but it's not! The sand is as black as asphalt! It's truly a beautiful sight. While it may get a little crowded, there's still a lot of room to walk around and there are little lava...More

The Road to Hana is paved and not a problem for rental cars. The biggest issue with the road is it is a tight squeeze in some places, with plenty of one-lane bridges. Just take it slow, watch out for other people, and you... More
