We had time because out hike from Kee Beach into the Napali back country got scrubbed, but that is another story. We were at Hilo and went to the botanical gardens there and figure why not lets go. We bought the ticket and went in and an hour and a half later we decided that we were good and neede to go not because we didn't like it we did but we were running out of time. Worth the money.

We arrive done day to explore here but were told we needed reservations. We made reservations and came back a few days later. Admission was $20 per adult. And it was well worth it. We spent about an hour and half here walking the gorgeous trail learning about the ancient Hawaiians and plants along the way. Tons of little streams and water features throughout and a great view of the ocean from the top of the trail. Wear bug spray as the mosquitos here were the worst we encountered on the island.

The Limahuli Garden and Preserve is a wonderful botanical garden featuring Hawaiian plants. We arrived right before opening time, having reserved a parking spot and entrance tickets online. (There is limited parking) Walking sticks are available. We spent just under 2 hours exploring & hiking the trail. What a gorgeous special preserve. We took many photos. We didn’t need bug repellent. The trade winds helped keep temperature very pleasant. Water jugs were spaced along the path (paper cups available from shop, or bring your own water bottle you can refill) It was great to see local school children on a field trip as we were leaving. They were involved in a service project & extended their Aloha to us. We would love to go again next time we visit Kauai.

We made reservations online the same day for a self-guided tour of Limahuli Gardens. It was easy to find and a relaxing way to spend an hour on the gorgeous island of Kauai. You must make a reservation online before going because they only allow a certain number of people/cars each hour. When you arrive, they give you a map and detailed brochure to help guide you through the garden. Views of Bali Hai are spectacular.
