- linda l18 contributionsGreat introduction to coffee farms.A great experience. Our first coffee farm tour of our vacation. Short ride from our hotel in Kona. The guide was very knowledgeable of the coffee making process and the history of the farm, the welcoming committee of dogs were a little off putting at first but very well behaved. The coffee samples were good and tour itself was free. Highly recommend. We're so glad you enjoyed the tour, thanks for visiting! -Hala Tree TeamWritten 19 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 December 2023
- David G2 contributionsA Coffee Experience with a Positive BuzzCat enjoyably guided us through the farm explaining its history, showing the coffee trees, and various stages of bean growth and maturity. As a bonus, after our sampling session she took us into the roasting room to learn about that process. Marissa then gave us a lesson in brewing. We learned quite a lot and had a memorable experience. Coffee will not be ‘just coffee’ for us anymore.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 February 2024

- tanaNevada3 contributionsTasty coffeeWe had a nice walk through the coffee trees, and the knowledgeable guide taught us about the coffee making process. Then we tasted coffee while looking out over the ocean. Really nice experience. It was a little tricky to find off of a very busy two lane road. We actually came upon it by mistake.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 March 2024
- Kelsi C19 contributionsGreat activitySo fun! My husband and I were looking for something fast and fun to do after checking out of the hotel and before our flight and the free coffee came tour was perfect! It was a brief informative tour followed by a tasting that was $15-30 depending on how much you tasted. We ended up buying 2 bags of coffeeVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 May 2024

- Megan M1 contributionBest Kona Coffee Experience! We visited Hala Tree for a coffee tour during our stop to Kona while on a Hawaiian cruise. It exceeded ALL expectations! With a group of 11 (coffee and non-coffee drinkers), everyone loved the tour. Molly was our guide and she was friendly, personable, and extremely knowledgeable on all things coffee! We got three half-flights and enjoyed stunning views while we savored some of the best coffee I’ve ever had. We made sure to stock up before heading home and will be telling everyone about our wonderful experience!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 August 2024

We learned so much about coffee from growing through brewing and drinking. We also now have an excellent understanding as to why some coffees are more expensive than others. After the tour, we were able to purchase some of the 100% REAL Kona coffees we tasted. Note that there is a QR code on the bags that will tell you when the coffee beans were toasted. Ours bag was roasted less than 2 weeks ago!Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 September 2024

We did the free farm tour because we had some time to kill before our plane left. It was well worth the visit! The guide was very informative and they offer lots of free samples. You can also buy flights of coffee to try if you would like. No high pressure sales or attempts to make you buy one of the tours that cost, just a nice short informative talk on how the coffee is made and the background of the farm. I don’t drink coffee (my husband does) but I still enjoyed it! They also have some dogs you can pet if you’re like me and miss your pups while on vacation! Whole visit was about 45 minutes, so if you are looking for something free and fun to do check them out. (They also offer brewing tours, but you pay for those and I’m not sure of the prices.)

We had a wonderful time at Hala Tree. First, the coffee was amazing. Second the staff were knowledgeable and very friendly especially our tour guide. Third the views while you sip your coffee are incredible. I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in coffee production and cares about coffee from the big island.

We went for the free coffee tour. It was great! "C" was our guide and she was very informative, pleasant and enjoyable. We learned a lot about Kona coffee, where it came from, how the beans are picked and processed and then we were able to get a tasting of 3 blends that were inexpensive and enough for 4 people to try. The scenery from the tasting area in the coffee grove was amazing. I would recommend this tour--even if you are not a coffee drinker like me (they did have tea options)!!

We did the coffee farm tour and it was great. Bonus, the tour was free. (I think there are additional tours you can pay for like processing and roasting). Tastings were reasonably priced but unfortunately the owners are coffee purists and don't have sugar (or cream) and I can't drink coffee black. But overall the tour was fantastic. Definitely recommend.

We visited Hala Tree for a coffee farm tour and absolutely loved it from the second we stepped onto the property. The farm is a charming collection of buildings with farm dogs and friendly farm cats, plus the requisite geckos and gorgeous tropical flowers everywhere. Our guide was very friendly and answered all of our questions about the coffee trees, some of which are over a hundred years old and still producing coffee! We saw the huge hala tree for which the farm is named, and learned all about coffee growing, pests, processing, and roasting before sitting down to taste six different roasts with different processing and beans. We tasted a raw coffee bean (earthy and muddy as described, lol), and then marveled over the different flavors in the brews we tried, as well as the teas they make. Bought more coffee than intended with zero regrets and will probably order more online. Wonderful way to spend a morning.

Aloha,
Our tours are free. We start with a tour of the farm and explain how the coffee farm works, then we end up with a tasting.
