Excellent Stop

This is one of the best museums we've been to. Certainly encourage people to take it in when they are in Lake Geneva.

Worth a visit
May 2021
Definitely worth stopping and spending some time here. If you read through things thoroughly, you can make it through in 1.5 hours and be well informed. If you are not as thorough, it is easy to do it in an hour. The local information is very informative and interesting even if you are not from the area. There is free parking just for the museum next to the building. If you are planning to be in the city all day, I would recommend using the lot next door since it is free. I did find that it was pretty full when I was there, though.

Exceeded expectations

Walking in, we set the bar low for what this museum could be all about. Jane made a difference in keeping the tremendous artifacts come alive. My wife was totally engaged in her stories and many questions were aptly answered. Well worth the time on a first visit. Senior discount worked well but we had to match and provide a $20 tip to the experience for a job well done. Atta girl, Jane and thank you.

Don't Miss This!

This is a great little museum with lots of Geneva Lake and Lake Geneva history and artifacts to explore. The museum is set up as a Main Street with different shops and homes housing the displays. I'm sure one could visit here several times and discover several “new” items each time. There are several free “Museum Only” parking places at the rear of the building.

Good for a city museum

This museum is taken care of by people who really care about Lake Geneva. There is a lot of detail to each exhibit. I'm more interested in going through mansions or seeing them from a boat on the lake. A bit pricey.

Charming and Informative
Jul 2020
We enjoyed our visit to this museum. Well-curated with local artifacts, it tells an interesting story about the founding of L/G by the first Europeans and the development of economic and social life in the area. I was struck by the timeline and the story showing the first European in the area in 1831 and by 1838 the Federal Government evicted the indigenous people, the Potowatomis.

A walk through time
Feb 2020
Terrific layout for a community museum. You will pleasantly surprised at all the attractions that are available. The museum highlights begin with an exhibit from 1831 and goes through the 1990s. Have you ever seen a real Stage Coach up close?, How about a one room schoolhouse? Do you know what a mail boat is? Look in the law office, why does a typewriter in there have a duplicate set of letters...Just fascinating. Children will enjoy because they can get up close and see. There are do docents available and more that eager to give you deeper insight to displays. The museum is located just in town, free parking. There is an admission charge that is very reasonable and has senior, military, student discounts. Easily spend 2 hours without even blinking. Would highly recommend if in the area.

Lake Geneva's Past
Oct 2019
We visited the Lake Geneva Museum of History on a cold Sunday. Housed in the former power company building it contains a tastefully assembled collection of relics of Lake Geneva’s past.

The exhibits are arraigned chronologically from a Potawatomi wigwam through pioneer homes, shops and offices up to items use within living memory. The numerous facades and artifacts rescued from buildings, homes and businesses bring history to life. We saw the mainchains at the end of the summer season before changing to their winter attire. The docent, Eileen, provided an interesting introduction to Lake Geneva’s history.

Lake Geneva History Museum is an excellent stop, particularly on a cold, rainy day.
