Don't skip this because you can't do 20 miles.
Jun 2021
Not up to a 20 mile walk (I'm not)? Try a mile or two, enjoy the gardens, the yards, the houses and the lake. You can always go back, maybe start at another location.

Pretty good walk
Jun 2021
It's been several years since we took the paths on either side of the lake and they are not all in the greatest shape, but it was still a nice walk right along the shoreline.

Amazing homes and architecture
May 2021
A fun way to see the homes and gardens that surround the lake. The views do not let you down. The path can be narrow in places and the Saturday we went was packed with people. Go early in the day and avoid the crowds.

Walk it!

Great stroll, beautiful views, and home.
It would be helpful to have Historical society place informational markers at Mansions of historical nature.

NO Face Masks or Social Distancing
Nov 2020
PLEASE respect fellow visitors & WEAR a face mask! I started walking this path early this morning and spent an hour on the trail, and NO ONE was wearing a mask! It's easy enough to carry a mask in your hand or pocket and briefly cover your face with it when you see someone approaching you on the trail, then you can remove it. In addition, the majority of the boat docks have been removed from the water in preparation for winter. They are being stored in the small green space between the edge of the lake shore and the path. This drastically decreases the width of path, in many sections only 2 feet wide, making it impossible to social distance. Under normal circumstances, this is beautiful path to walk, I just ask that people be respectful and curiosity of other's safety.

Public path through private land
Sep 2020
At 21 miles long, a professional marathoner could knock this trail out in 2-3 hours. Most people, us included, choose to take our time and hike a segment or two at a time. We also took the mail boat cruise and watched the mail jumper run a half mile or so of the path at near marathon speed to deliver to addresses where the lake was too shallow and docks too close for the boat to navigate. Each portion of the circuit is different because each land owner along the way is responsible to maintain their portion of the path. There are several other extended hiking trails in the area to explore including John Muir, Emma Carlin, Ice Age, and a little farther and a whole lot longer, the North Country. Explore and have fun!

Final walked the entire 21 miles
Sep 2020
Walking around the entire lake has been on my bucket list for quite some time. Last weekend my girlfriend and I decided to do the walk. It was a beautiful September day, about 70 degrees. We started and 8:45am and finished the walk at 4:30. I was a little nervous as I was hearing anything from 22-28 miles around the lake from different people. Well I am happy to say that it is exactly 21.4 miles. At least that is what I got on my watch. We did it in 7 1/2 hours but we only took two bathroom stops and I will say we walked at a decent pace. The furthest I had ever walked prior to this was nine miles so I was a bit leery that I could even finish this. I am happy to say that it was a very enjoyable walk. It is mainly all flat with a few house steps in between. You are walking right by the water the majority of the walk. At one stretch you went on the road for a very short time. The views are incredible and my friend talked the entire time so the time went by fairly quick. I was afraid to stop for lunch and relax a bit but now that I know what it is like, I would probably stop for a nice lunch next times. There are supposed to be five bathrooms around the lake and we only came across three and used two of them. Make sure to have a good pair of walking shoes on or hiking boots. A good pair of socks is a good idea as well. Dress according to the weather and bring a small backpack with granola bars, fruit and water. Then again if you stop for lunch, you probably would not need that. I enjoyed it so much I am doing it again this weekend. It is a great challenge and an accomplishment to be proud of.

Wonderful Walk
Sep 2020 • Couples
We walked from Williams Bay to Lake Geneva and greatly enjoyed it. It was so interesting to see how each property handled the path and we enjoyed the great views the whole way!

September Trek

Not ready to do the full hike around the lake, we hopped on the Lake Geneva Cruise Line to cross the lake and then walked the 10 miles back along the Lake Shore Path. The walk provides unique views of stunning homes and landscaping as well as Lake Geneva. Part of the fun is also the variety of trail types--everything from dirt and grass paths to concrete and brick pavers. A fun activity for a warm fall day.
