If you are in Huarocondo it is well worth your time to visit the church. They also have processions where they parade a saint around the plaza at different times of the year.

I was amazed when we went into the local church, to see such an ornate church in this small town was truly surprising, the whole front alter section was painted and the alter was almost entirely covered in gold leaf, and our hosts showed us where there are several layers of paint on the walls. If you happen to be in the area or staying at GringoWasi, this church is worth a visit.

One thing that stands out when driving up the Valley towards Huarocondo is the large Church that dominates the city view, and upon entering the main plaza, you are amazed that such a small town would have such a grand Church. Like most churches in Peru the Iglesia San Martin de Tours was built by the Spanish back in the 17th Century.

The inside of the Church is as surprising as the outside with a large gold gilded alter and its painted ceiling. There are also several paintings and murals that are said to be some of the best in the region, and the carved wooden pulpit is a beautiful piece as well. Overall I would rank this church right up there with the church in Chinchero, while only slightly smaller it has been better maintained and is no less impressive.
