Wonderful tour of museum. The museum provided a nice historical overview of Gig Harbor. The old school house was so interesting. Exhibits told if the fishing history in the area. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Great find in Gig Harbor

Small Museum with a lot of History
Jul 2019
This is a small museum about the history of Gig Harbor. Self guided with plenty of explanations. Not very busy. Free parking.

Free admission in 2019, but that could change in 2020.

Very well designed from a teacher's point of view

Displays are informative, many hands on, and not overwhelming. Younger and older alike would love it. They have a fishing ship that is being restored and you can get right next to it.

So many wonderful things about the area I had no idea and was so pleasantly surprised, I have brought several people over to see since my first visit.

Great Local Museum

For a small-town museum, this place is awesome. Excellent facility, lots of great exhibits, very friendly staff, a nice gift shop and a great way to become familiar with local history.

Great Local History Spot
Aug 2018 • Friends
This is a nice place to take out of town guests to get a sense of Harbor history. Everyone is friendly and helpful and the cost is fair. There’s a one room school house and a fishing boat plus much more. Very child friendly.

Be sure and get the headphones for the exhibits

Outstanding local museum! Very friendly staff who will give you a private tour, answer any questions, anything at all! The quality of the museum rivals any big city museum - this place is small with a limited scope (Gig Harbor, not all of Western Civilization, haha!) but it is mighty! I highly recommend getting the headphones while going around through the exhibits, as they provide excellent curation and lots more information than the signs, including a terrific interview with a witness to the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (Galloping Gertie) in 1940. They have an original local schoolhouse which was moved here intact - very fun for kids to sit in the actual original desks, and fun for the adults as well, to watch the video inside playing on a loop with interviews of people who actually went to this school! There is also a fishing boat on site which is being restored to use as an exhibit - though you can't go onto it at this point, you can walk around it, watch the restoration workers doing their thing, and speak to a docent about the shipping boat's history, it's construction, and the work that is being done to it. This year, the town has funded the ticket price so there is no cost to enter the museum, and even the headphones are free. Excellent museum, highly recommend!

Excellent small museum

Wonderful, knowledgeable staff and a small but informative, nicely arranged exhibit space. Especially enjoyed being able to walk around on the Shenandoah, a fishing boat being restored. A great way to spend a couple of hours!

Nice set up and great volunteers, but little of great interest to me except the boat that is being restored.

Interesting stories and artifacts from the local area. The small schoolhouse was eye-opening, I'd seen them before, but not so intimately. Lastly, being able to walk through the vessel in the midst of reconstruction was a great experience.
