Shenandoah Caverns has been thrilling visitors since 1922. It is the only Virginia cavern with elevator service, making it one of the easiest caverns to tour. It's also the closest major cavern to I-81 (Exit 269). Our famous bacon formations are so unusual they were featured in National Geographic. Personally guided tours through our 17 soaring rooms take approximately one hour. Also see our other attractions: Main Street of Yesteryear, American Celebration on Parade (open seasonally), and the Yellow Barn. Open all year. Located 2 minutes from I-81, Exit 269, five miles north of New Market, VA in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Let the exploration begin! Please keep in mind that while Shenandoah Caverns does have an elevator, it is not considered handicap accessible. The pathway is crushed gravel with slight inclines throughout the tour, so assistance is required to navigate the tour via wheelchair. There is also one small portion that is not accessible by wheelchair at all. If you are walking the tour, you must be able to stand for one hour and walk one mile. If you have any questions about accessibility, please give us a call.

The caverns were awesome! Leah was a fabulous tour guide. The lady working the front desk for 31 years was so interesting to chat about at history. Would highly recommend for adults and children (above toddlers). Even has an elevator.

We had a lovely tour of the caverns in a private tour. We have several small children and decided a private tour would be easier on the adults. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the caverns and offered numerous facts about the attraction. He...More

Over the years, I have visited Carlsbad Caverns, Mammouth Cave, Ruby Falls and Luray Caverns, all scenic wonders. But I wasn't prepared for what I discovered at Shenandoah Caverns. It is a commercial show cave in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and the only cavern...More

We had a great guide through the caverns. Some spots were low and my husband had to duck. The total walk was about a mile.

Despite living within a few hours, we had never been to any of the caverns that Virginia has to offer. Eager to change that, we had considered Luray; but given that it is well-advertised and known as the largest on the East Coast, we also...More
