We went in early December when the museum was running a three mile "Candy-land Express" train ride for kids. The place was busy! Once one navigated past the free-photo-with-Santa line, the car and train exhibits are impressive. The docents are former (or current) railroad employees,...More

I could watch the 0 Gauge train set up for hours. It is huge and realist in detail. Several trains travel on many levels. I also liked the shorter display of Thomas for the kids. The second favorite thing I liked were the many historic...More

This is a great place for history buffs and for youngsters to get up close to many types of transportation! Many good photo opportunities, too. Highly recommended for self tours.

Visited the actual day that J-611 train engine returned to Roanoke. Supposedly a memorable day. Scheduled for 4pm. But trains are always late. Cuestioned my late stay. But I was already there. Somehow when it happened you get the feeling that it was worthwhile..
