Visited the actual day that J-611 train engine returned to Roanoke. Supposedly a memorable day. Scheduled for 4pm. But trains are always late. Cuestioned my late stay. But I was already there. Somehow when it happened you get the feeling that it was worthwhile..

The transportation museum is worth the visit. It has exhibits regarding cars (a variety of old cars), buses, trains and planes. But the highlight is the exhibit of trains; a great variety of locomotives and other rolling stock.

This is a great museum for anyone who loved transportation. You even get to sit on a train and watch a movie. My 2 favorite exhibits are a miniature train garden layout and an auto garage from the old days.

We got there and only had 45 minutes to see everything before it closed at 5p.m., but what we saw was great. But, plan to be there at least 2 hours to see everything. We plan to go back when we are in the area.

I was a little worried about spending a few hours of my short vacation at a transportation museum. That’s just somewhere I never would have expected to end up and thought it was going to be boring. I wasn’t too excited about the start of...More
