Pontefract Castle is run by the council and entrance to the castle and grounds is free. There is a cafe and a shop. And, there are regular events at the castle throughout the year.

Great to see this historic castle being restored, I’m not a great history buff but my friend is and the staff were very knowledgeable about this and other historic sites in the area. Also visit Sandal Castle in Wakefield.

Had a great time, kids loved it. A really great piece of history with superb views. Staff were very friendly and there were crafts for the kids to get involved with.

Didn't have a full meal but am going back to have one as the cakes were sooo good. Spotless clean with lovely staff just wish it opened before 11am. Ten would be better as could go for breakfast. Recommend the dungeon tour too.

I have just discovered that the Liquorice Café has had to close down as it was losing money. Such a shame. With all the other attractions that are going on, I would have thought it would have had plenty of customers - especially as the...More

Though not much is left of what was surely once a magnificent structure, the site is still well worth a visit. The fairly recent renovations have resulted in a small visitor centre with a few activities for young children, and a small cafe, which has...More
