The Museum of Island History is a great starting point for any Isle of Wight visit. A great showcase of the Isle of Wight through the years. Including a changeable exhibition in the rear gallery. Designed by John Nash and built in 1816, the historic Guildhall is home to the Museum of Island History. Fabulous exhibition. So much Island history and some interaction items too. Not huge but well worth a visit. Learnt so much about Island history. Loved it.

If you have an hour to spare whilst in Newport, or if it is raining, its with popping into this tiny museum just to get a feel of the history and development of the Isle of Wight

This very small museum is housed in the Guildhall in Newport's High Street, a neo-classical style building designed by the nationally famous architect John Nash, who lived on the Isle of Wight. The entrance is hidden behind the Visit Isle of Wight Information Centre's desk...More

An interesting collection relating to the Isle of Wight. As it is in the island's main town and in the same building as the visitors information centre it can be easily included in a day out. Can't remember exactly when we visited but it was...More

We popped in out of curiosity and glad we did it was £5.00 for the four of us. It is full of information and great photos of the island from the past its full of history and we had a really good time. The staff...More

Informative, well laid out, interactive and child-friendly. Not expensive and good for a 1-2 hour visit.

We went to see this museum at the Guildhall but it was closed with a notice that due to funding it had closed and that some of their items were in the corse of being loaned out to other museums!

The Museum reopened in March 2016 and is now open Monday to Saturday. We do hope you will pop along soon and see us. We have changeable exhibitions too :)

i have to give this place credit as it was open in Feb when rest of island it seems was shut. They had pretty good display about island history and some natural displays bones worth a look in if your in the area
