I don't normally visit chapels/churches but couldn't resist a peep inside this little chapel whilst visiting Mijas last time. Steeped in history & dug out of the rock by monks centuries ago, make this chapel a little bit special. Inside, there is an altar &...More

Why is this chapel here? Apparently it was excavated from the rock in the 16th century by Mercedarian friars and it gained its reputation when apparitions of the Virgin Mary started in 1586. Today it is still a unique and moving experience with the chapel...More

Mijas offers so many different things, and this is one of the many unique and interesting things. A lot of history here, not just a touristic activity.

A most beautiful beautiful little chapel built into a cave at the top of a hill. The chapel is serene and breathtaking. The views are stunning. Absolutely worth a visit.

Apparently that’s how long it took the hermit who dug the cave that forms the core of this interesting little chapel. Worth a visit to see the regalia inside and the view from the roof observation point when it is open.

Nice chapel carved in rock very tight place and get very crowded very quickly ... but the views of Alboran Sea are breathtaking from the well kept garden/sitting area.free entry, but do put your change as donation for church

Easily accessible and interesting little church/chapel apparently carved out of the rock by monks with evidently nothing better to do. Generally there are too many of us tourists gawping for it to be considered suitable for any reflective contemplation and I do wonder if it...More

The Capella Virgen de la Pena (Chapel of the Virgin of the Rock) is a small chapel carved out of the rock by a monk in the middle 17th century. There is a shrine and to one side a small area of exhibits with some...More

We travelled here by local bus - cheap and what a fantastic journey up into the mountains. The views from up here are wonderful and well worth seeking out all the local and historic points.

The way this beautiful Chapel has been carved in the rock is absolutely amazing. So peaceful. It is an absolute jewel and is definitely a "must-see". Highly recommend.
