Make sure that you see the weather forecast before you visit this place. We were very unlucky and only saw fog and more fog. Also people there are not very friendly watch for Freitas !!!!!
We stopped on our way between Machico and Porto da Cruz, definitely worth the visit for the stunning views! We also had fab lunch there. Easy car park and not much walking involved. The clouds and fog just fly by 100times a minute, one can...More
You could get to Miradouro do Portela if you go to Levada do Furado (Ribeiro Frio-Portela levada). We finished our levada path at Portela and were amazed by beautiful views from Portela.
A great viewpoint heading between Santo da Serra / Machico and Porto do Cruz. Lovely views down towards the ocean.

We stopped before going on a nice walk along the levadas. Good coffee but you could also have lunch there.
We were traveling through the north east of Madeira for the first time and came upon this Miradouro by accident. It was a lucky accident since this is spot provides an excellent view to the coastline
