We had a personal tour by one of the few remaining monks. It is a spectacular place. It has a small museum, caves excavated into the mountainside, and a beautiful church with a spectacular pipe organ. It’s not easy to get there, but it is...More

Visiting this abbey is a very typical experience. You have the feeling you visit an abbey where time has stood stil. Not since the middel ages but since beginning of the 20th century. That experience makes the visit unique. Unfortunately, large parts are not open...More

The Benedictine monks or parishioners must have had a lot of money as this monastery church is very grand. The interior is very fancy with beautiful marble work. Worth a visit if you are passing by.

We were also staying at the Hotel Scapolatiello and had time to walk through the village to the church. Beautiful historical property if you can arrange a tour do it the moment one steps in side of the church the scent is of polished wood.

This is a most beautiful mediaeval monastery which still houses about ten working monks. The architecture of the building is astounding - it is actually built into cliff and incorporates the cliff face. The guided tour is worth taking, showing the beautiful library and the...More
