About
In the Müritzeum, you can enjoy the nature of the Mecklenburg Lake Plateau with all your senses: dive under the surface of the water with a school of whitefish, give a concert with nightingales, black woodpeckers and their fellow feathered friends, or circle over Lake Müritz like a white-tailed eagle. Discover the unique realm of our native flora and fauna on your expedition through the Müritzeum. Hidden under the water's surface, fish and other water creatures live in streams, rivers, lakes, ponds and pools. It is rare to be able to observe the behaviour of these animals in their natural habitat. Immerse yourself in the Müritzeum's exciting underwater world and be amazed by Germany's biggest aquarium landscape for native freshwater fish!

The whole museum is very well structured in its presentation from an educational perspective. It covers a wide range of aspects of the region, with a focus on the national park, of course. It covers plants, animals, geology and the history of the area, which are presented very well with many informative exhibits and interactive areas. It is also very suitable for children - perhaps especially so. The only negative aspect is the high number of visitors, which led to a bit of crowding and did not necessarily improve the atmosphere. Perhaps we should think about limiting the number of visitors.

Greatly made museum with many informative presentations. We really enjoyed the virtual balloon ride over the region and the underwater world of Mecklenburg was also well represented. Really worth a visit for families

The Muritzeum Nature Center and Aquarium is part of a large national park on Lake Muritz. The center boasts the largest fresh water aquarium in Germany on the lower level, naturally a big draw for visitors of all ages. Species native to Lake Muritz, and the region are featured. We found the experience of taking in a fresh water vs. salt water aquarium to be a unique one.
The upper level of the museum has two main areas: the forest exhibit and the bird exhibit. The forest area features interactive displays that were a hit with our children, ages 11 and 9. The natural history, plant and animal life of the region, as well as some agricultural history were covered in this area. The bird room displays were more traditional (think bird models behind glass), but also worked in some hands-on features, such as one on the aerodynamics of flight.
A popular stand-alone exhibit, is one where you walk into the center of a smallish area and stand on a little "bridge," representative of a hot air balloon basket. There is a faux balloon above you and surround video simulates the effect of taking a balloon ride. Though the video quality was not amazing, it was good enough that I started to experience some motion sickness!
The large open forum in the center of the museum features large scale screens showing images of the region during the four seasons. Its primary function is to provide a place to take a break and relax in a more open area--a well planned concept for anyone who has ever spent a day at museum with kids.
Outside on the grounds, you can take a walk around a large pond, feed geese and enjoy a playground. Also on the grounds is another older building with some insect and animal displays from decades back--I believe this the predecessor of the current center.
Admission is very reasonable: 12 euros for adults, 5 euros for children ages 6 and up, 6 and under free, and a family ticket is 28 euros. We visited on a German holiday date in August, so the museum was very busy; I observed that in places it seems like foot traffic can get a bit bottle-necked and the traffic pattern for going through was not altogether intuitive. For a slightly more relaxing experience you may want to consider choosing a quieter day, where circling back to different exhibits would be a more feasible option. For English speaking visitors, signage throughout the museum is in both German and English. I would definitely recommend the Muritzeum Nature Center and Aquarium for families visiting this part of Germany.

The main attraction are the fish tanks with local, and not so local, fish and other sea animals. Very relaxing to look at. There’s also a history department and various activities for children. Texts are in German and English.
All in all a nice place to visit on a rainy afternoon, but if you prefer to have your kids fat in stead of well-educated, you’re prabably better of in an icecream parlour.

Nice and interactive museum. We loved the combination of tests and the live fish!

We spend about two hours here which is plenty to see all.

The museum shows the different types of fish and birds inhabiting the area. The fish are shown in an aquarium. It is also famous for its collection of insects. There is quite a bit to do and see.

The Mueritzeum gives you a very good overview of the flora and fauna of the national park as well as of its history. It is worthwhile spending there one to two hours to learn about the different varieties of fish as well as how this area has developed over time. The ticket is a day ticket, therefore you can take a break for strolling Waren or take a boat trip and come back again to finish the museum.

we may not have visited but for a recommendation and it is well worth while. Even though it is mainly about aquatic life there are many other aspects to the exhibits. A lot of them are interactive and very detailed in explaining the impact of man on the environment. Well worth a visit

Highlight is the large aquarium. From the roof of the museum you have a beautiful view. Around 2 hours are sufficient for the tour.
