About
From 1869, Annunciation is Houston's oldest Catholic Church. Renovated in 1883 by the famous Texas architect Nicholas Clayton, a blend of romanesque and gothic architecture. In downtown, across the street from Minute Maid Park, see the stunningly beautiful stained glass, graceful columns, and reverent sacred worship. "Proclaiming the good news of the Gospel in majestic beauty."

Beautiful Catholic Cathedral right across from the Astros’ stadium. Went in for 5pm mass and got to this beautiful church in person. It reminded me of the old churches in Naples and Palermo, not humongous but quite pleasing on eye. Beautiful art throughout.

My wife and I were in Houston to attend my computer software conference. Being a Sunday, we checked and searched for a Catholic Church and learned that in 2 blocks was the oldest Catholic Church of Houston, the Annunciation Catholic Church. The 8:00 am and 11:00 am Sunday masses are in Latin. We woke up early to attend the 8:00 AM which was the traditional Tridentine, a fully Latin high mass as compared to the 11:00 AM Latin Novus Ordo mass. It brought chills and pleasant memories of my childhood; remembering the Latin prayers as an altar server I read from a cheat sheet to answer the Priest Latin prayers... The Latin hymns and songs were so solemn... Yes the modern mass has the participation of the people/parishioners in prayers and hymns which is very good and influential to young people/parishioners. But for once in a while, when there is such an opportunity to attend the old traditional Latin mass, I love to attend it as it brings lots of good memories... like remembering my departed Mom and Dad as they brought us, their children early Sunday morning to attend these old masses in the 60s...

We were in Houston for a baseball game while on a baseball bus tour and we passed this church. I was struck by the beauty of the building. We spent a bit of time there on the way to the game. Very peaceful

During a break at a recent conference at the convention center, my wife and I attended the Latin Mass(11am Sundays). It was a beautiful service in a beautiful church. Very welcoming community. They also have Eucharistic Adoration. Such a spiritual oasis in the heart of downtown Houston.

I Stopped by this little church for the week I was here during the National Pastoral Musicians Association 2016 convention and found this place & Looks little on the outside but a bit bigger on the inside!
A very wonderful parish that's filled with a rich history of music, with one of the oldest pipe organs, and still in functionality since 1921!
A brighter note is this parishes is the only church in continued used of the extraordinary form of the Roman Right(Novus Ordo) during the 11am mass on Sunday and is the most popular time for this parish & is the only parish with a 6am morning English mass (rare at best) & last mass is on 5:30pm Gregorian Chant English for Sunday's
8am is also the Tridentine(which is the oldest form of Catholic worship in use) requires a manual of which will help you understand how this mass works.
Weekdays are from 6:30am to 12:10pm
All masses are in English/Latin language...
So when in Houston, Texas & are searching for a refreshing change from the everyday form of "normal" worship then come to Annunciation Catholic Church & say "Fiat"to God in this way!
You'll be glad you did.

We stopped in here on a Friday morning to just visit, and realized we were not dressed properly. Men don't wear shorts and tank tops, and women don't wear short skirts and spaghetti straps!!!!!! That may sound stuffy and archaic, but it is a bit of old world Catholic tradition, that the rest of the west probably needs to latch on to!!!
So we decided to come back the next morning for the 8am Saturday mass. And what a treat!!! The inside of the church features a beautiful frescoes of the Transfiguration, and many beautiful statues. There is also a communion rail that was used during the Sat am mass (not sure if it is used at other masses, but would assume so), again another old world tradition that needs to be brought back.
We loved our visit and can't wait to go back!!!

A beautiful church to see! Well worth the visit. It definitely has an old world feel to it as well as being an active modern day parish.

We visited on a late Sunday afternoon about 1 hour before the 5:30pm mass. We found the Cathedral completely locked up. We understand in these times that even a church has to protect its resources but it is sad that one can not visit and have a moment of reflection...and take in the beauty of this incredible place.

We went to mass to this beautiful church in downton Houston, the mass was nice, traditional, and the church's stained glass windows are gorgeous complementing the architecture and high ceilings. We parked in the Incarnate word parking lotm behind the church. The Church offers both the Tridentine Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo Latin Mass for those who prefer to attend mass in dead languages. We went to the 9:30 am English mass and was not full.
