Absolutley sorry because 8 years ago went to the observation deck in 57th floor. Now there is no access anymore. The girl in the front desk was very kind and truly sorry becuase a lot of people ask for the same day by day. Its a sad decision but those are the rules. The good side of this story is the small plaza on the street with an awesome sculpture by Joan Miró.

Firstly, There is no way that this is the #30 top attraction in Houston- it just shows how ridiculous these charts are as they are based on REVIEWS. Without a doubt a FREE partial view of the Houston skyline- standing in a hallway looking out a window- then going back down to the lobby is NOT worth spending money on parking unless you are already in DT anyway.
Those who say to 'explore' the tunnel system- SKIP IT- it's a total waste of time and there are far better things to do. If you made it this far in the review what you can do- IF YOU HAVE THE TIME- if take the Metro Rail from Hermann Park to the Main Street station- it is a SHOT TRIP. When you exit at Walker Street- walk down one block to Travis- the HUGE tower you see there is the tallest building in Texas and the tallest ground to roof building in the southern USA- the Chase Tower.
You can go up to the 60th floor for free and in the hallway you can get a partial view of a very limited area. After you look out the ONE large window- go back down and return to Travis. Go back down to Walker- turn right (You are walking in a westerly direction) for three blocks and you will get to City Hall. Walk inside and you'll enjoy taking a picture at the huge bronze 'Seal of Houston' and also observe the amazing architecture.
Right outside the main entrance to City Hall is the Houston CVB- they have TONS of information about the entire region and will provide you with a free bag to carry everything you need. If you don't mind another block or two walking- keep going down to Sam Houston Park- you will discover amazing views and you'll be on the grounds of the Houston Heritage Society.
Here is where your trip really gets interesting- you'll see the 1847 Kellum-Noble House- the oldest surviving masonry house in Houston, as well as the 1868 San Felipe Cottage , 1868 Pillot House, 1891 St. John Church, 1870 Yates House etc - you will find it a great spot for pictures as well. You can now walk back to Main Street and get back on the Metro Rail- if you were driving- there are plenty of paid parking lots, but I'd first suggest driving down Walker.
As soon as you pass Main Street there is parking on both sides and even with seeing the limited view at the Chase Tower and walking to City Hall- you won't be two hours. I clicked 'Visited in August', but I teach at U of H in DT and know the area for years. And if you made it to the end- just look up 'Houston Ship Channel' tour- that is free and it's something any family would GREATLY ENJOY.

We ventured into downtown Houston specifically to see this view but unfortunately they are closed on weekends and holidays. The very nice security guard told us that people come all weekend trying to get in so this is your warning don't even try! I gave it 3 stars because it is disappointing to go all the way downtown and it wasn't open.

We took the trip over to jp morgan chase to go up and view the observation deck. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told that visitors are no longer allowed to the observation deck. They say it has been closed to the public since May 2016.

Why oh Why is the observation deck that we have been told so much about, not open any longer to the public?
The building is still accessible for the tunnels etc but but to go to the top and see the rest of Houston - so little to see around the area now except hard rock which we came to see as well

I travelled into the city have a look at Houston from the top but unfortunately the receptionist informed us that the tower's observation deck is closed indefinitely. The lady in question was very polite however and helped us find the nearest entrance to the Houston Tunnels.

We wasted our time. Please remove this from the listing. It is closed for the public. Went there during the day time and did not even say anywhere. But when we reached there the person said it was closed to public.

Unless you have business here, don't waste your time. The SkyDeck is permanently closed. The information desk will refer you to the Wells Fargo building a few blocks away, but they won't let you go up either.

The observation deck has been closed for 2 years. Not worth a visit. The receptionist said the website had not been updated. He referred us to the Wells Fargo building but they don’t have an observation deck either.

How is parking? Do I need to take public transportation?
Written 1 May 2016
There are a couple of parking places that charge about $10-$15 for 2-3 hours near the tower. I usually have lunch at Spaghetti Warehouse, leave my car there (which they charge about $6 to park there) and then walk to Chase Tower. You get to look at the cool buildings, restaurants & bars on your way to the skyscraper. Hope this helps!

Is the elevator enclosed? I'm afraid of heights. We might be flying to Houston in May 2016. I'd like to go up to the lobby with my family & let them walk over to the windows, while I hang back - but am worried about glass elevator.
Thanks,
Kathy
