- zachattack01Brampton, United Kingdom21 contributionsCentral Park of TexasI was really impressed with this park and it’s size and design. It reminded me of the parks in Washington DC along with the Washington monument. There is a golf course, zoo, theater, and lake. It does get very cold since you’re right by water so would recommend bringing a jacket or hoodie . Amongst the nicest parks I’ve seen in the statesVisited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 17 January 2024
- ND FVancouver, Canada686 contributionsA gem of a park - was not expecting the many attractions.Spectacular park - was not expecting the many attractions available when visiting. Went mid-morning and found a parking space (and no charge for parking). Walked through the Japanese garden, took a miniature train ride around the park. Many water features to enjoy and places to kick back and rest. Glad we found this gem of a spot during our trip.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 January 2024
- soccermom101147 contributionsThis place is a jewel!!!!We spent two days wandering around the park & were amazed at how well it is kept & how even in the midst of a city as large as Houston, we could find quiet spots & enjoy wildlife watching. Don't get me wrong, it gets CROWDED. But the people are polite, everything is squeaky clean, and it's just a beautiful beautiful park. We hope to return in warmer weather to see it when everythign is green....Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 February 2024
- TerryEdmond, Oklahoma4 contributionsHerman Park VisitWe definitely recommend visiting this Park while in Houston. It really was impressive how many different sections it had. My 14 year daughter loved the gardens, they also had a lake with rental paddles. I thought the train that takes people around the Park was a GREAT IDEA. We used it to get around the Zoo and all the foot traffic inside park. MUST-DOVisited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 April 2024
- handifBurnley, United Kingdom332 contributionsGreat urban oarkLovely urban park, with lots of water and shade. Really well kept grounds, with different themes and home to the zoo and museums amongst other things. A lovely way to spend some time walking and sitting under a tree. We visited the day after a lot of rain, so after we left realise we had insect bites. Spray before you go if the weather is similar for you!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024

It does attract crowds, but we made the mistake of coming here on a hot day, and the temperature and humidity were too extreme for us to enjoy the experience.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 September 2024

Very low key, family friendly. As the crowd thins later in the evening you can stroll about alone and take paths to nowhere - the space is not large enough that you'd ever get lost. Main fountain/lake provides vidual interest, and if you bring a book, there's enough light to ready by sitting on some of the benches - huge plus for me.

First time walking around in Hermann park since Covid began in the spring. It was crowded!
We brought take out from Local Foods in the Rice Village. The parking was packed around the zoo, so we went to the parking across the street near McGovern Centennial Gardens.
We walked across and found a socially distanced picnic table near Miller Outdoor Theater. The Hill was taped off, I guess to prevent congregating there.
Mixed amounts of people with masks on and off. The bad news was the crowd, but the good news is, the park and open spaces are large enough that you can choose how close you get to people. Walk off the pathways if you need to.
Avoid the restrooms if they are overly crowded.
The one near the train boarding is always cavernous, even pre-Covid. Why in the world it is not double the size and more open aired at the top of the walls is beyond me. Very poorly planned.
The ones at Miller are large, but as one lady remarked when we went in: “Nasty!”
McGovern Centennial Garden ones are mid-size and today anyway, were cleaner.
Sorry, not to dwell on the restrooms, but they were a concern w/Covid.
We popped into the Japanese Garden. A few azaleas in bloom already. Otherwise looking wintry. Some small bridges in need of repair.
We enjoyed walking around Hermann Park on a balmy Texas day at the end of this pretty awful year. Felt good to be out.
Here’s hoping we can enjoy it more freely and without worries in 2021.

This was a great place to walk around and see the plants and sights while my wife was recovering at the Medical Center. We would visit periodically to walk around the water feature and visit the various gardens. The Japanese garden was a nice blend of oriental influences with Houston compatible plants.

Looking for a leisurely place to walk, have a picnic, or just have round of golf? Look no further... Hermann Park has it all. There is also a great little restaurant by the Zoo Entrance it's $$ rated, I ate for $7.50 and it was GOOD !

This is one of Houston's best inner city parks located between the Medical Center and the Museum District. I was at the Houston Museum of Natural Science and arrived before it opened so after parking I just walked around the park. The park has a small train that kids can ride on as it loops around the park and Miller Outdoor Theater is great for outdoor concerts and the annual July 4th fireworks display.

We went for a walk in this most beautiful of spaces and felt so happy and romantic. We were so impressed by the use of the space and the amazing diversity of the venue. The water features were so calming and tranquil. Just being in this park was like being in a beautiful place filled with love.

A large open space with many variations on the heart of the city. It was refreshing to be able to walk around the park an enjoy the greenery. The Japanese garden was lovely but it closed too early and we were shunted out 15 minutes before closing time so we did get to experience as much of it as we would have liked. The pond was very plural with birds Adn people alike. There is a train that goes thu the park but we didn't figure out where one could buy tickets.

This is a spacious and well designed park with a lovely rose garden. We were there in April 2021 after a hard freeze had compromised many plants and trees. The foliage was not too happy but the stroll through the park was nice. We saw a ‘tourist’ train running around the park but didn’t ride since we were all adults.

Hello, I'm visiting Houston for the first time and I wanna come visit this park. Please I'll like to know if one has to pay to get into the park or go to other sites in the park. Thanks
Written 14 May 2018
Free, unless you can't find a spot and have to park off site.

hi, i do believe so. I saw many dogs with owners and most we off leash. the main park is not fenced in. So unless your dog is well trained I would keep him on leash. its a large park with lots and lots of people, believe me. Have fun!!!
