Bayou Bend is the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston's house museum for American decorative arts and paintings. Displayed in the former home of Houston civic leader and philanthropist Ima Hogg (1882-1975), the collection is one of the finest showcases of American furnishings, silver, ceramics, and paintings in the world. The house is situated on 14 acres of organically maintained gardens in Houston's historic River Oaks neighborhood.

Neat tour of home and gardens. Classic furniture of the period in the amazing home. Nice little walk into the place across a suspended bridge. That alone was pretty neat! As I recall we paid $12.50 per adult and I thought that was very much...More

Walked through the gardens in early May. Beautiful, comfortable weather (72). The two-story home has furnishings from different periods in each room. Interesting for history buffs. Not necessarily the casual traveler, or with kids under 21 who find it boring.

A Gem donated to the city of Houston by Ima Hogg with her collection of various periods of Americana Furnishings. Also view her homes extensive gardens (also popular when the Azaleas are in bloom)

It is a pleasant and beautiful garden. We paid military rate with the discount and it was still $16 per adult. We only got tickets to browse the gardens and its pathways and not go inside the mansion. Even though it was very charming and...More

Ima Hogg, despite the ridiculously insensitive lifelong moniker given her by her father, Jim Hogg, a former governor of Texas, became a civic leader and philanthropist in Houston. She built this impressive and beautiful mansion and garden along the banks of Buffalo Bayou. Today it...More

This place reminds me Atlanta History Center in Atlanta GA (even on the way to get here). Gardens are beautiful and a good amount of walking paths (most of them are not wheelchair accessible friendly). Also there are lockers that you can store your belongings...More

A pleasant way to spend a few hours. A little too hot to really enjoy the gardens, but nice place to visit.

We came as a family for Mother's Day. Bayou Bend did a nice job for Mother's Day. We took the garden tour. Mom's got in for free. Adults get in for $7.50. Kids under 9 are free, too. That is a good thing as I...More

Learn American history through arts and crafts. Highly recommend the 90 minute house tour to enjoy all the rooms. Stroll the lovely gardens at your leisure. Not crowded in late April but the flowers would have better earlier in spring.

Yes there are many times brides have photos taken in the garden area. I am not sure about using the house. The gardens are beautiful and photographers use it often.
