I found great books on Scotland and on Dumfries and Galloway in particular. A great local bookstore has the personality of its owner on display, and Shaun clearly has a big personality. I could have spent many, many hours here.

A gem of a place with so many nooks and crannies filled with books, you'd probably find something new in each visit. Particularly liked the reading snug up a ladder, and the oddities on the walls and the ceilings.

Purportedly the biggest used bookshop in the UK. Clearly the biggest in Wigtown and probably the best. Strong in nonfiction. Fiction offerings not large. Large Scottish room in back provides tons of books on Scotland and is excellent. Whole stack of Irish books near entrance...More

I first found out about this shop when I read Shaun's book. It was so endearing that I wanted to come and visit, so did. Even better seeing the shop than reading about it, Shaun was a lovely person, who is doing a huge amount...More

Just finished The Diary of A Bookseller. Brilliant. This place is a must see. Heaven on earth or what?

Visited with family as we sampled most of the town's other shops. A huge amount of books and rooms, nooks and crannies. Most seem well catalogued and organised, however, there is clearly too much stock so there are large numbers of stuffed boxes and crates...More

I was in heaven from the moment I stopped in. There are books as far as the eye can see and I think if Sean, the owner, could figure out how to install a bookshelf in the ceiling, he would. Literally every other space had...More

When my boyfriend told me that he'd booked us 2 nights in Scotland in February my heart sank. I feared cold and rain and being in the middle of nowhere. Luckily he knows me well and had chosen Wigtown which is Scotland's National Book Town....More

Took a trip south recently with my wife and ended up in Wigtown. Having strolled around the small village centre we ended up chatting to Shaun in The Book Shop. This has got to be the most interesting and fantastic second hand book shop I...More
