We visited on a rather blustery day with howling winds and cold temperatures, but it gave us such a feel of what living there in the winter must have been like. The sound of the wind against the chimneys and windows was crazy! It was...More

The castle is fascinating, and the tour guide was knowledgable, enthusiastic and entertaining. This is a castle tour where you get to see almost every room, with lots of interesting supporting furniture and artefacts and stories. The place has been rescued but needs a lot...More

The castle actually looks a lot more like an ordinary house with the interior decoration and the audiotour has very nice stories to tell about the rooms, the house and its inhabitants. With interesting short stories and tales. Lovely 360 views on the surroundings.

The audio tour of this castle makes the experience very worthwhile. The self-guided audio tour allows you to move at your own pace, and choose to hear more about each room, and the history behind it. The staff is very knowledgeable about the Braemar area...More

Yes, we're certainly not on the motorways! which is what makes visiting so different and special. The reason the Castle is here is because of the attractions of the fantastic landscape. It was originally the Earl of Mar's "holiday, get-away-from-it-all, castle"

This is an interesting view into local history, with many artifacts and photographs. A typical castle site.

It’s not one of the biggest or grandest castles, almost the size of a large keep. It has about 12 rooms that are restored to a really interesting condition. It’s more like a look back to the 1950’s than a real look back in history,...More

Love going here. You can wander about at your leisure and enjoy every second of this adventure into the past. It’s so quiet when there’s no one around. Feels like you’ve gone back in time.

Wonderful that you feel that way. The Castle sits in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, 50 miles from the nearest city. This remoteness does give a very special sense of peace.

I’m quite certain you don’t have to pay if you don’t go inside. The grounds are not gated so you could have a nice roam around easily.
