Walk up the winding steps to the hidden gem of the War memorial. At the top, you have a beautiful view if the harbor and the town.

This memorial was erected in 1922 to honor those lost in WW I and other notables from the area. It sits in the center of a cobble stone plaza and once would have looked out over the harbour but buildings obscure that view now. This...More

As Portree is pretty small and this is in the middle of the square, it is an easy detour to take in the memorial. One of the many well done war memorials in the highlands.

There's hardly a town in the UK that doesn't have one of these memorials, and Portree is no exception. It's set in a less than somber spot, in the main square, which, alas, is mostly populated by tourist buses these days. Still, worth a stop...More

Having seen this on some travel programmes I was interested in seeing this one. As my husbands family came from Skye I found a few with his name. Set in a nice square.
