This Centre is well worth a visit and its World War 1 tributes are especially moving. It is a small island so the losses must have been devastating for the community. You can spend an interesting hour or so here and see the Whale bones...More

The little Westray Heritage Centre at Pierowall is beautiful. It is small, as expected on a small island, but very well presented, informative and educational. It was interesting to learn that the tiny Westray community lost 38 (!!!) of its sons in WWI.....You wouldn't think...More

Go here to see the Westray Wife. Lot of history of local people in the wars, story of post man is good. Skeleton of beached whale outside is something to behold!

This museum offers a snap shot of history over time. Lots of info and some superb artefacts from recent digs other local museums would never be able to keep hold of. Worth it just to see them!

Orkney is magnificent in so many ways but they sure don't make a big fuss. The heritage centre is sunk back from the 'main road' but has a car park and shouldn't be missed. The main centre charges £3 to go in but has an...More

It's not very big, but they have an interesting range of archaeological finds from the Island, including what they claim is the oldest sculpture of a woman in Scotland. There's a very short video explaining the work being done at the various digs there, and...More
