You can't go round the house without pre-booking a tour, so we had to pay £9 to just go round the most dreadfully neglected garden. I know we've had trying weather, but NOTHING had been dead-headed so dry brown blobs on all the roses. The...More

We had a wonderful visit because the guide was passionate and clearly had a deep knowledge about the family and the house. We had a lovely walk though the beautiful gardens and had a nice coffee in the new cafeteria . What was negative was...More

Have wanted to visit for some time having been inspired by images of the gardens whilst studying. Beautifully laid out gardens nestled in the lovely Dorset countryside. Topiary heaven, lovely vistas, pools, beautiful pergola with roses and underplanted with hellebores and so much more. I...More

Café offered an appropriate menu and well prepared food, run by young, helpful staff. The grounds are very pleasant. Trees and shrubs imaginatively planted and the garden is picturesque. More could be done in the way of information. However, we won't return until we learn...More

The house is wonderful. The tour led by a trio of elderly ladies was informative and amuzing. However I really wanted to read up on the house and have some pictures of the interior as photography isn't allowed, but there is no guidebook at the...More

Cold reception at ticket office. Told house closed. No guides for garden. No labels on specimen trees and shrubs. Gardens untidy and stone paving dangerous to walk on. Very disappointed. Not worth £9 entry fee. Decided not to use cafeteria. 19 June 2018.

Stunning gardens, gave me lots of ideas on planting. House was stunning, nice to see a property lived in by the family, wonderful pictures and portraits, full oh history. Very knowledgeable guides, who made it all the more worthwhile, very much worth a visit.
