Motoring around on the pontoon boat was a highlight for our kids. Pulling up and dropping anchor in the many little coves to swim undisturbed by crowds and in such crystal clean water was delightful. We took a picnic to enjoy on the boat. It...More

We stopped to take a look at the dam and the views. Several hiking trails and we were glad we took the hike down to get a close up look of the dam. Lovely views!

Great deep lake that is fun to explore and is usually not as crowded with boats, as most! The fishing can be good at times, too!

Awesome paddleboarding on the lake. It was quiet and lots of ducks, and geese, plus a beautiful sunset. Parking is easy and everything was clean. Plenty of picnic tables.

Love walking on the AT around this lake. We've also rented a boat and gotten to ride around the lake seeing all of the beautiful views. Supposedly very clean, although I've never seen in it myself. Captain's Table restaurant, with beautiful views of the lake,...More

We love going to Watauga Lake, there is so much to do there. Camping, swimming, boating and you can rent boats from the marina. We love taking our kayak out on the lake, it is so peaceful there and are several areas with picnic tables...More

I believe that you can fish along the lakeshore. You can buy a license at many local businesses and some marina’s.

We were just passing through area so I am really not sure on when you can swim. I would imagine that the water is a bit cooler than some lakes due to the fact that it is in a higher elevation and surrounded by mountains... More
