Bostadh Beach on Great Bernera is a remarkable beach the sand was so white the day I visited. When I arrived it was sunny and windy the sand was blowing about. There is good parking with toilets and an honesty box if you want to make a donation for the parking. The beach is beside a graveyard which is worth a visit to get a sense of the history of the place. It is more than interesting to discover a Time and Tide bell, these have been put in place in twelve locations throughout Britain. The idea being that they ring when the tide rises and comes in. The Bostadh Bell was installed in June 2010 and there was a ceremony for the occasion. I was able to get up close to the bell such an unusual thing to see.

Visited on a quiet morning with only the cows and farmer feeding them for company. Short walk to sands and Iron Age house.

Definitely one to add to the itinerary - Bostadh is both gorgeous and host to significant art as well as archaeological finds.
Parking at the top near the graveyard we strolled down to the beach. The Time and Tide Bell comes immediately into view and like all good art, enhances it's environment whilst delivering a message.
A short walk round to the left brought us to the iron age house replica and an information board at the top of the hill, which helped us see the foundations.
The beach is tiny and utterly beautiful. We had it to ourselves the majority of the afternoon and enjoyed the solitude. The rocks also provide shelter when the winds are too high. Great views over to the other islands.

We were staying in Crior and Bosta was a quick drive for us. We did some of the best hikes of our trip starting at Bosta. We took the footpath to Tobson and several others just wondering round through the fields and cliffs. When the tide was out, we took a little scramble over to the rocky island and found some treasures. Great place with wonderful views, including four hairy coos wondering around at the beach.

Beautiful white sand, turquoise waters, exactly what you expect to find when visiting Lewis & Harris. It's hidden on the small island of Great Bernera, the drive there is stunning and the views from the beach is just breathtaking. And if you make it early enough (it wasn't our case), you can visit an Iron Age house. Pretty sure there are some trails around that would be worth doing but we didn't have enough time when we went there. I'll definitely come back there and spend more time.

Despite our many visits to Lewis we had never been to Bosta Beach. The location is absolutely stunning beautiful white sands and blue/green sea. We were lucky to visit on a sunny day with no wind, unusual in February. Very few people around just a few cattle grazing near the shore. There is also a recreated iron age house which wasn't open but that's to be expected in winter.

The day we visited there where two Highland Cattle on the beach. We had the place to ourselves. Nice place to stop and take in the view with a sandwich and cup of tea.

Came to visit the Iron Age house and enjoyed the chance to walk on the beach and headland. Just idyllic. Walking in the headland just amazed at the blue of the sea and enjoyed watching a seal watching us!
It's a reflective place. You can imagine life here in 400-800 AD when the Iron Age village was in existence. A different era. But the sea still pounds the same shores.
Please visit!!!

This is a beautiful beach that is well worth a detour to the Island of Great Bernera to visit (no need for a ferry as bridge from Lewis gets you there). It is a stunning beach with parking and toilet facilities and the icing on the cake is that it has the fantastic Iron age house on the beach which makes this beach a must do destination if you are visiting Lewis. Very highly recommended.

It's the Time and Tide Bell: a permanent art installation in a handful of locations across the UK. The idea is that the bells chime at high tide and draw attention to climate change.

Is their anywhere to camp ? We love camping and would love to explore Scotland and camp

In Scotland you can camp anywhere as long as there is no sign to say you require a permit. Wild camping is permitted with the understanding that you respect the environment and don't camp in a way that causes obstruction or intrusion to others including residents. There is an area above the beach and another behind the beach that would probably be suitable for a tent.
