My parents originated from the Isle of Lewis. I hadn't been back for around 10 years. We based our trip just outside Stornoway at Holm near where the Iolaire disaster happened many decades ago. I returned to bostah beach where my father is buried in the cemetery close by. I had visited a number of beaches including those in Harris and uig. I felt most at peace in Bostah which is in a beautiful peaceful bay.

Came here on a day trip and I'm glad we went slightly out of our way to see it. Plan on spending a few hours here. V

This has to be our favourite spot in the Outer Hebrides.
Whether sunny, windy or wet with rain, it is simply a great place to sit and contemplate.
Take time out, chill, look and wonder.
When the sun shines it reminds us of Tobago, and that's not as fanciful as it sounds.
Go and look for yourself, whatever the weather.

We slept in our van at Bosta Beach, where we could enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets ever. It is usual to be surrounded by sheep, but also cows and bulls.
Archaeological remains are worth a visit, and walking around is easy and it is nice doing it not only along the obvious areas. Going out of the path in this case can bring surprises.
There are toilets but not showers. There is a parking, a little bit limited but useful. The beach receives visitors frequently so it is difficult to be on your own but the area is not crowded.

Hidden away at the end of the peninsular you find this beautiful bay. The white sands and turquoise water make it a photographers paradise. The bay looks across at sea stacks and evokes a real sense of the past. In the shallow waters you will find a sea bell which is not only functional but a true piece of sculpture. It is a place for contemplation and peace. Sit back and relax and let the cares of the wold drift away with the outgoing tide.

This beach is quite, quite beautiful. White sands, turquoise sea, and stunning views. And an Iron Age reconstruction (built after the original settlement was uncovered by a storm in 1992), with an amazing lady to talk you through it, with her own very plausible thoughts on how it was used based on her own practice runs with the peat fire and the cold storage. To find out more, go - you won’t be disappointed. We don’t have children, but enjoyed seeing little ones on the beach having huge fun!

Bosta beach lies at the end of a meandering road through Bernera Island off Lewis. Stunning white sands and turquoise sea whilst we we there and very, very clean. There are two small parking areas, one with toilets and a two minute stroll takes you to the beach which also has one of a dozen "Time and Tide" Bells located around the UK and a reconstructed Iron Age Fort. Well worth a visit on an island renowned for lovely beaches.

Most charming beach with beautiful white sands. Views out of this world can't wait to go back. Very secluded and peaceful.

This beach is the most beautiful. Beach ever and is a sun trap .
On the island of bernera ,It is very quite also a Iron Age dwelling which was a little disappointing but the beach is one of the best in the world .

Stunning beach - you could be in the cariibbean apart from the cold and wind! The replica iron age house is also situated here, although it was still closed in early May. We hiked there from the community centre car park at Beascleite. Not hard walk as such but quite boggy. Allow at least 3 hours for the round trip

It's the Time and Tide Bell: a permanent art installation in a handful of locations across the UK. The idea is that the bells chime at high tide and draw attention to climate change.

Is their anywhere to camp ? We love camping and would love to explore Scotland and camp

In Scotland you can camp anywhere as long as there is no sign to say you require a permit. Wild camping is permitted with the understanding that you respect the environment and don't camp in a way that causes obstruction or intrusion to others including residents. There is an area above the beach and another behind the beach that would probably be suitable for a tent.
