Absolutely stunning beach with beautiful white sand in a beautiful bay so quite protected. The water is light blue and the whole area is stunning - a must visit if you’re on Great Bernera

There are many wonderful beaches in the Western Isles. The island of Lewis and Harris is home to many. Bosta beach is not nearly the largest, but is one of the loveliest, and has the added attractions of a Time and Tide Bell and the nearby attraction of a reconstructed Iron Age House.

I was privileged to see this beach in all it's glory in April this year. Nobody was on it just me and my 2 dear friends. Big rocks, pools caves and grassy banks to sit on. Totally unspoilt and a must-see if you like peace and quiet and solitude. Love it.

Amazing blue water with amazing white sand. Long winding road out to the coast but worth it. Too cold to swim for me but others braved it.

This is our favourite beach on Bernera, beautiful sand, rocks to climb or sit on, and brilliant blue sea. There is also an art installation, the time and tide bell, and a reconstruction of an iron age house.

Well worth the drive, bernera has so much gorgeous unspoilt landscape, which is epitomised in this site. The beach itself is pristine, white sands with views to little bernera, the time and tide bell is monument to our abuse of the climate. It was low tide for our visit so did not hear it ring. High praise to the restorers and guides of the iron age house, seriously fascinating.

We found Bosta Beach after quite a long and twisty road, even in the wind it was SO worth it. It's utterly stunning. Pristine white beaches, not a piece of litter and not a tat shop anywhere. This is a very remote beach and when we got there, we were nearly blown off it, but we had SO much fun. This was a recommendation by a local as Lewis's best beach, and he was SPOT on. 👍🏼

Beautiful lonely beach near the Iron Age House.
Was rather empty, and surprisingly clean despite being near a museum that beckons lots of tourists.
Water is clear and clean, very few people were here which was nice.

We were there this week and saw an unusual looking green metal looking containeron a stand erected n the sea. Can anyone tell us what this is? Thanks

It's the Time and Tide Bell: a permanent art installation in a handful of locations across the UK. The idea is that the bells chime at high tide and draw attention to climate change.

Is their anywhere to camp ? We love camping and would love to explore Scotland and camp

In Scotland you can camp anywhere as long as there is no sign to say you require a permit. Wild camping is permitted with the understanding that you respect the environment and don't camp in a way that causes obstruction or intrusion to others including residents. There is an area above the beach and another behind the beach that would probably be suitable for a tent.
