Beautiful Falls
Oct 2020
we did not visit the lake as we went for the falls. lots of parking, very short walk, the falls are beautiful esp with leaf color now in Oct. it was a little crowded, but if you sit and wait, the crowd passes. this was the most beautiful falls we saw on our trip, mostly due to the tree color. was lovely. no bathrooms. free . there is a hiking trail around the falls over the wet rocks, which i did not chance, but many people were doing it.

Beautiful waterfall
Aug 2020
Love this park. My daughter's favorite waterfall thus far. The falls is very pretty with easy access from the parking lot.
Note there are 2 entries to this park, one on each side of the river. The Eastern parking lot has better access to the falls.

Parking space is more than adequate.

No longer a tourist attraction.
Nov 2018 • Solo
The falls were once maintained as an attraction, but a limited maintenance crew handling 35,000 acres managed for wildlife can no longer keep up with the repair and trash. That being said, it is now just a waterfall in the woods. Don't expect high maintenance, although a volunteer did an Eagle Scout project recently and repaired some steps. The Game Commission does not operate off of taxpayer dollars, but rather sportsmen's dollars. The lake is now primarily managed as a waterfowl impoundment, so don't expect a park like setting. It is also not open to commercial camps or camping. Groups larger than 10 need a permit.

What a dream!
Oct 2018 • Couples
We went on a hike in October and this place was gorgeous. So breathe taking and not an abundant amount of walking. Don’t park at the visitor Parking. Drive past it and over a little bridge. That will allow you to be up close in the falls and walk right beside them instead of just admiring from afar. You may think you see them all but continue right and there is a spectacular view.

Powerful waterfalls (after a rainy August) that are very easily reached... if you know about them
Aug 2018 • Couples
This is a hidden gem that I only learned about recently. The falls became much more powerful after the Shohola Lake Dam was put in place, so that now they are impressive and beautiful cascades. The great part is that they are easily reached on either side, if you know where to park. Tip for travelers: Thanks to a helpful blog called "Uncovering PA" by Jim Cheney, I can share the coordinates for both entrances, which I successfully used this week. This is important because the more beautiful view is not from the western side, off Rt. 6; it is from the eastern side. The western side has a lovely short walk and a nice view too, but if you can deal with stairs and are careful with the path and the slightly slippery ledge (very slippery when wet), you can get right up to the falls both midway and at the bottom of the eastern side. Here are the coordinates. Eastern side, where the turnoff is not marked but there is a sign for some old cabins: 41.390504, -74969160. Western side, a bit more visible: 41.391771, -74971643. The road was narrow but in adequate condition, and there was plenty of parking. People also come to the lake to fish. Again, be careful on the eastern side if you choose to step out onto the ledge, which can be slippery.

a gem

Very nice falls to see from the ledge or from the observation point on the other side of the lake. The parking lots are in need of some repair as well as the marking but its worth while.

Beautiful falls with a short walk
Jun 2018 • Couples
Note - for access to the falls, go through the old "Shohola Falls Inn" entrance. A short trail and stairs will take you straight to the wonderful falls. Very peaceful with places to even sit. Trail to the falls is definitely less than a mile and the stairs are a bit steep but doable!

Fantastic falls, easy to get to
May 2018 • Couples
You have to drive up a narrow barely paved road to get here, but it is worth it. If you follow the path to the right of the dam it brings you to a wooden overlook. You can go down further, but it requires a little bit of climbing over roots and rocks. Not extremely difficult, but narrow and slippery from spray.
The falls are not high, but are many levels which makes it fascinating to watch. There were a couple people fishing while we were there.

Beautiful cascading waterfall, limited trails
Nov 2017 • Family
My family and I, as well as a friend's family, stopped here while exploring waterfalls in the region. The waterfall here is just below the dam that forms Shohola Lake. It's a wide, cascade-style fall, that looks like it would be great to swim below on a warm, summer day. There isn't much to explore, but we spent a half hour or so meandering around what was. Definitely worth a visit if you're trekking the multitude of falls in the region.
