Seriously, Australia has some of the worst beers in the world competing vigorously with the likes of Budweiser and Miller or Coors to create some of the most processed undrinkable liquid yeast infections in human history! And this is why we as honest beer lovers need places like this - pure malty goodness! Tim Thomas, the founder and brewer, manages to balance tasty explosive flavours with forward-thinking provocative concepts. You might say hops are his most powerful ally when it comes to pushing these ideals (of what beer in 21st century ought to strive for) to their limits. Is he on a crusade? Perhaps. And if he is then it's a noble pursuit. The beer world unwittingly suffers under this new 'craft beer' fad. Brewers have jumped on the bandwagon attempting to exploit this idea of authenticity with overpriced shortcuts and easy-outs undercutting the market and cheapening the produce while short changing those that really cop it - the consumers. Sift through the sediment and find the brewers like Tim who will change your life for the better.
I joined my brother (an almost 20-year home brewer himself) for the much anticipated visit to Tim's brewery while on holiday in Australia.
Tim's smoked pumpkin Belgian Saison is masterly. Somehow he deepens an already complex beer with spiced pumpkin notes - a beer your bulbous belly just can't have enough of.
His DIPA is a taste explosion - dark amber colour, typical floral citrus aroma, and the most incredibly sweet hoppy taste you'll ever experience.
His Pale Ale is a little more like an American IPA which I have absolutely no issues with - in fact for my tastes many Pale Ales seem afraid of flavour. His dark redhop ale too is a little more hoppy but much more rounded and subtle in flavour which for me creates the perfect contrast.
Finally, we came to the Belgian triple. Living in Amsterdam I was very curious to see what Tim had done. On the one hand, I found it to be a little too yeasty for my tastes, but this was Tim's intention and I realised here is a man who wants you to enjoy his beer, but also encourages you to question conventions and preconceptions and see if you might find something new. And in this, his beers never get old, they remain exciting and fresh while building on this wonderful tradition.
If you're a lager boy, there's nothing wrong with that. But if you're looking for more, perhaps a little known haven of passionate brewing with a finishing hop of wit, then Hop Dog is worth the trip.
Invest in the true independent brewer, and you'll never get a hangover!

Called in and checked out this place, after seeing so many good rewiews.
Certainly not dissapointed, with the beer styles really fitting my taste.
A good attraction, & even better if you appreciate a good Ale.

Hopdog is a great little craft micro brewery in Nowra offering a number of interesting beers for both tasting (charge applicable) and to purchase. A little more expensive than your normal bottle shop offering but worth tracking down. When looking for the brewery its off the Princes Highway on a service road, next to Bunnings Warehouse.

Interesting beers well worth tracking down. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Unromantically located next time to bunnings.

If travelling anywhere in the Nowra/Jervis Bay region, stop by for a exceptional craft beer. Brewed with passion and intelligence, stop by for a growler and a tour.
Also has occasional evening and Fri/Sat sit down food and drink.
