A great little musuem with knowledgeable guides.
Alot of local history and interesting stories about the local area and Northern Rivers generally. I have no connection to Alstonville personally, yet I enjoyed my visit

Brilliant tour

Very interesting heritage house c.1910. Two excellent guides on hand to explain about the history, furnishings, appliances etc. Kitchen and laundry were especially interesting - things your grandma would have used and older people would recognise from their childhood. Also impressive collection of fashion and woodwork from the local high school. Definitely worth a visit.

Changing displays
Sep 2017 • Friends
Always interesting as displays changed on a regular time frame. Local names and places of major interest. Lot of research goes into putting it together.

Done with love, but nothing you've not seen dozens of times.

Alstonville isn't exactly a hotbed of tourist activity but there are a few things to poke around at.

This nicely maintained older home is full of bric-a-brac from times gone by and so is probably not a bad curio of a place for young and old. School groups go through here apparently and it must be amusing to hear the children be dumbfounded at the lack of mod-cons. And of course older visitors will reminisce of their youth.

The building itself and everything in it are nicely presented. It is, as my title states, nothing you've not seen a stack of times before however so there is little 'wow' factor. The volunteers that run it are a friendly bunch as you'd expect and there are a range of books on sale about aspects of local history.

The limited opening hours mean you should plan your visit but while it is a minor attraction if you have some spare time on a Sunday afternoon then why not have a poke about the place?

I've been to this museum a few times as they have changing exhibitions. The staff are very knowledgable about the people and events around Alstonville, very willing to share this knowledge with you. You can find some really unique objects in here plus some really interesting stories relating to the local area. I mostly love the architecture of the house and the pretty little garden and grounds. Keep an eye out for special events that are on.

Very limited opening hours

The Crawford house Museum is located next door to the main shopping area of Alstonville, which makes parking very accessible.

It is a small, heritage listed museum.

A local community and volunteer run archaeological materials, photographs, oral histories and texts which tell the story of Alstonville and surrounding districts.

Interesting little museum!

Visited Crawford house a while back. It's a Museum bulit into an historic house from the area. When we visited there were a number of different exhibitions on of varying themes, all with relevance to the surrounding area. Won't take you long to get through the place but the exhibitions were interesting, as is the house it's self which is setup in the style of it's era with lots of authentic fittings/furniture etc.

If you wish to learn anything about the history of the Alstonville Plateau area this place is certainly a worthwhile stop. It's right in the middle of town, easy to get to, lots of parking and friendly staff working there.

Quaint little country cottage museum in a scenic area.

We found this quaint little Federation house museum while we were just driving around. It was the original settler's home on a farm, but now sits in a small village. It was never grand, but is a good example of Australian country life from 1900 to the 1960's inside. The local Historical Society displays all sorts of household items from the past that reminded us of out childhood homes. We found it a fascinating visit for a very reasonable entry fee, with a volunteer guide that brought things to life. As it happened we were also able to buy a book that had information about my local family connection. So we'd recommend anyone who has an hour or so to spare to visit.
