Housed in the town hall, I found the displays to be poorly lit and depressing. Obviously the museum is about Barnsley, but I felt it did not offer too much of interest for a non-local. Can't see that I'd want to go back.

Great place to view the history of Barnsley, Mining, Football, Schools, Glass, Flour, the list goes on. Well presented, interactive, with a great space for younger children. There are exhibitions which change regularly, in the past there have been Star Wars and Dali as well...More

Spent most of the afternoon here, fascinating display of exhibits with emphasis on social history. Would definitely recommend and looking forward to a return visit.

i belive it tells the story of barnsley very well the people the mining and glass industry barnsley football club the markets the pubs and nightclubs the famous people it is well worth a visit.
