One of a small number of excellent museums in Stockport, this one features the hatting industry which once centred on this area. You enter via a very nice shop with a very good hat selection for sale. Downstairs there are two floors, one with extensive...More

My mother in law came over for the weekend and I thought this would be a nice museum to spend the morning. The museum is free but tours are £5. We did not take the tour. The museum gives a good idea of what life...More

The array of hats displayed is staggering, and you get the story of how they were made and the people involved. I liked the gift store a lot, I wish I had bought the hat I tried on, it rocked. Go for an hour, enjoyable....More

A fascinating insight into one of the lesser known industries which boomed at a time when everyone seems to have worn a hat ! Very informative and superbly presented along with the original production machinery which was also made locally and reflects Stockport's notable history...More

Had an excellent guided tour of this museum and learnt so much. Hatters make hats for the gentlemen and milliners make the ladies hats. Loads of beautiful hats on display including some which could be tried on. Very complex machinery for stretching the hoods -...More

To a point. Hats and clothes to try on and lots to see. The work room may be a bit boring and noisy if the machines are being demonstrated

Hi there, Hat Works is just a 5 min walk from the train station and a 2 min walk from the bus station. It is signposted from the train station and the building can be clearly seen from the bus station. Thanks
