- MikeGlossop, United Kingdom616 contributionsWartime TunnelsSelf guided tour around the wartime air raid tunnels in Stockport town centre. They also do a bookable longer “explorer” tour on the evening of the first Tuesday of every month. Definitely worth a visit. Takes about an hour and there is a complementary audio guide if you want.Visited July 2023Travelled soloWritten 14 July 2023
- martianpoolwomanManchester, United Kingdom128 contributionsGreat value for money and fascinatingThis is an excellent attraction. It takes about 1.5 hours and is very reasonably priced. The entrance is clean and welcoming and a little shop is to the left as you enter. The staff there, Roger, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The toilet is in the building opposite. The exhibit itself is well laid out and the information boards are in a 1940s style which is an interesting touch. There is a mine of information about the area in World War 2 and it was very moving at some points. It is a very cheap morning 's activity and I shall return.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 July 2023
- Jane S3 contributionsGreat value for money tripGreat value for money trip which I’d recommend. I visited with my husband and adult son. Lovely welcoming staff throughout. Able to walk around at your own pace and audio guide gave many insights into life in the shelter and of the war.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 August 2023
- juniperbyjennifer47 contributionsFantastic Late Night TourFascinating piece of modern history that must not be missed. I am sorry to say I have lived locally for years but could never find the entrance which is infact right by Primark and the Plaza. Came on a Flecky Bennett Ghost Night Experience which is more of an historical walking tour at night and it was absolutely fascinating. The history in those tunnels and the depth and history in them is not to be missed. I’ve visited similiar sites abroad but never in the uk but for the cost of entry get down that tunnel and make a day of a visit to Stockports museums. This is a real treasure of a venue for all ages but as an adult I’d recommend a Flecky Bennett tour on a Thursday which you book direct with him! You see 2/3 more and such interesting storiesVisited August 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 August 2023

Stayed here for the night after a friends wedding. Bed not comfy ATALL. Very squeaky. I’m sure I heard rats in the night. Woke up to a stranger taking pictures of my feet to post on the web. Said he had let himself in. Won’t stay here again, terrible value for money.

Very interesting insight to how people coped in air raid shelters. Information right through the tunnels. Slightly chilly inside.
Situated by Merseyway shopping.

Do the car parks in stock port get very busy during the Easter holidays - reading the reviews it seems there is a multi story very close but how easy would it be to find a space on a Friday morning during Easter holidays ?

Would the air raid shelters be ok for someone with limited walking ability, are there any steep slopes or steps?
edwardbear80
Manchester, UK770 contributions
It depends which tour you choose the standard self guided which is shorter would not be to bad as its mostly flatish but it depends how bad your walking problem is. The longer guided with them is quite a lot longer and more unstable ground.

Two questions. 1. Is this likely to be interesting to a child of 9? 2. Would it be pretty cold in there visiting now, i.e. January?
edwardbear80
Manchester, UK770 contributions
I would say yes it would be interesting but the film beforehand could be a drag as it goes on a bit, not sure about a coat we were fine in just a thin jacket.

the cost please
edwardbear80
Manchester, UK770 contributions
£4.75 and £3.50 O.A.P but that's 2016 prices they may have increased now.
How long would you spend at the attraction? How long does it take to go round?
Helen B

I would say, at least an hour but it would depend on how interested you are. If you want to listen to all the stories and read all the information panels them this will obviously take more time than than if you just walk and just look at the displays.
