Best view in SJDS! Enjoy the walk if you have time and stamina
Jun 2020
SJDS's single most visited attraction. And a must-do.

Our B&B, Villa Arcadia, is on the hill below the statue. Let me give a few pointers. Taxis from town are $10 or from the Port $20. Taxi prices in SJDS are regulated, so if you take a licensed taxi, it should be the same. If you take a taxi, ask them to drop you off at Hotel Pacifico at the foot of the hill for $5, then walk the remaining 15 min. Or, for free, enjoy a safe and scenic walk along the beach from town, through the Talenguera neighborhood, and up the paved but steep hill (you will walk past Villa Arcadia). After 4 pm, most of the route is shaded. At key intersections there will be signs for the statue. We enjoy going about 5pm for the shaded walk, soft colors and sunset. The entry fee is $1 for Nicaraguans and $2 for internationals. You can pay in dollars or cordobas, and they can usually make change. There is a small chapel in the base of the statue, but the history signs are in Spanish. There are bathrooms too, if needed. Bring water and snacks as there are usually none available for purchase. Regardless if you walk or drive, you must be reasonably fit. From the parking lot to the top, it is 97 uneven stairsteps.

A trip highlight
Feb 2020 • Friends
Had been to San Juan del Sur before and could see the Cristo down from the town but had never taken the time to get up there. We finally made it! After a ten minute drive from the center of town going on the Chocolata, the road that also takes you to the beaches North of the San Juan del Sur bay, and up the steep hill road, we left our car in a parking lot and continued the last 5 minutes up to the Cristo on foot. Breathtaking views and a small little chapel which I found suggestive. The Alcaldía (municipality) charges a little entrance fee when you get up to the highest point. Absolutely worth it. You can also go on foot directly from town just walking North on the beach and then following the directions for the Cristo or asking the friendly locals who live around there. Consider a 45 min walk and a lot of uphill.

WOW!!

What a GREAT view of SJDS and it only cost $2. Jesus was also pretty COOL 😎 Lots of steps and very steep if your hiking. We took Gaby transport which was a good deal and only had to walk up from the parking lot.

Great View of the Bay
Dec 2019
A very steep hill to climb but definitely well worth it. Ask the taxi driver to take you to almost the foot of the statue as then this leaves only a short walk but still very steep. There is a small entrance fee, US $2, for a wondrous view of the bay and the ships anchored there. What a great sight.

Beautiful view of the bay

The view is breathtaking up by the statue. One thing for sure it’s some workout to get up there. It feel like the hills in San Francisco lol.

Fantastic view.
Dec 2019 • Couples
Really impressed with this Jesus statue that is one of the tallest in the world which is amazing considering this is over such a small bay.
The views over the bay are fantastic and if your on a cruise, a great view of the ship. Well worth the $20 taxi ride from the port and a nice walk back down and along the beach back to the port. Just be aware that the entrance to the statue has a very steep 90 odd steps which takes a bit of effort.

Sweat it out!
Nov 2019
I'm 74 and I climbed up to the top of the mirador from town. It gave me a great feeling of accomplishment. Start no later than 4:00 so that you can get there no later than 5:00 so that you can see the sun set on the bay of sjds. It's worth the hike. Costs $3 for foreigners.

must-see during a visit to San Juan del Sur
Oct 2019
We visited Mirador del Cristo de la Misericordia on a Wednesday afternoon excursion to San Juan del Sur. The views are absolutely stunning and the only way to really see the town in my opinion. We were the only visitors and spent about 20 minutes taking pictures and just enjoying the views. The little museum in the base of the statue is worth a visit-all of the materials are in Spanish but if you don't read it you can still get some understanding of the history of the statue. Don't miss the view from the top of the steps facing away from the town-it's gorgeous. We drove up with our guide from Costa Dulce and I honestly can't imagine walking all the way from town. We went in the middle of the day so it was especially hot, but even early in the day or at sunset it would be a strenuous hike to the top.

Best view in town!
Sep 2019 • Family
Best view you will find in San Juan, plan to be there at least 30 min to take photos. Bring your binoculars to enjoy more details. You can get in your car or taxi up to 200 m from the top, or you can have a good walk from the beach.

Amazing View
Jul 2019 • Family
This is an amazing place to visit after you have some brunch or lunch to walk off some of the delicious food San Juan Del Sur has to offer. You will sweat a bit but the view is the prize.
