Great if you're staying at Tanglwood
Jun 2021
The trail began right in front of our resort (Tanglwood) and we found ourselves using it quite often...to walk to the visitors center, visit the dam, meet up with the boat tour and watch the sunset. There are plenty more scenic areas if you are looking for a hike, but this path was quite convenient for getting around without a car.

Great walk and relatively easy.

Our jumping off point was directly behind the visitor's center where, by the way, the staff person was very very helpful in sharing info on local sites. Behind the center you can join the trail essentially at the middle and opt to go in either direction. If you go south you head toward a section that is pretty but with little tree cover. We opted to go north and weren't disappointed. Lots of nice views of the lake and lots and lots of trees. Ease walk for us seniors.

What a beautiful trail. We walked over a mile of it and made stops along the way marveling at the beautiful landscape. Highly recommend for every fitness level.

Not great but gives a chance to walk at Lake Wallenpaupack
Oct 2020
Biggest advantage is that it is easily accessible from the Wallenpaupack Visitors Center and is an easy trail. If you go one way there is a very short woodland trail (equivalent to about one or two city blocks) that takes you to the dike. You can walk the length of the dike if you wish. In the other direction it takes you to the dam. The first part takes you through the beach area, past a vehicle camp ground and finally onto a woodland trail for a bit before coming to the playing field for a high school. At that point you can walk down to a small beach. I turned around when the trail went up some steps onto a large concrete area so I didn't see how the trail was between the end of the concrete and the dam. I believe it goes back into the woods.

This is a pleasant interlude and exercise opportunity. The trail is easy for a family with kids and fun to do. Not crowded either.

Nice, easy walk along the lake. Fun and relaxing to watch all the boats on the lake. Also a fantastic place to watch the sunset.

A nice easy and most interesting walk

Start by walking on the dike, follow the shoreline, see what the high school students see from the school, pass the dam and cross over the pipeline watching the creek flow.

Lake Wallenpaupack visitor center is beautiful and the ppl working there are very helpful. After already walking the Tafton damn trail (a beautiful well maintained trail on top of the Tafton dam) my wife and I decided to go into the visitor center and see if their were any other short trails we could easily hike. After talking to the very nice girl at the desk of the visitor center and getting a trail map, amongst many other pamphlets, we decided to hike the lake trail to the nature center. Well the trees are all changing and going midweek means you basically have the area to yourself! We saw an eagle, 2 osprey, along the lake as well as lots of squirrels and geese. Both trails are well maintained, easy to follow, flat and short. We started bothtrails just behind the visitor center. To the left, Tafton dam trail is compacted tiny stone and approx 1 mile round trip, to the right the lake trail leads to the nature center and is approx 1.5 miles round trip. Mostly compacted mulch. Best time to go is spring, fall weekday. Great pictures of sunset from the dam.

A very cool place to visit

I was very pleased with the interaction the employees had with the animals. It is a very "natural" animal park with dirt trails and lots of shade. Some of the animal areas were a little overgrown but they all seemed very happy in their environment. Would definitely recommend taking your kids/grandchildren there for sure.

LOVE the LAKE TRAILS. Great for people who want to take a leisurely walk and not rush. Always nice, friendly people, too! Beautiful area.
