nice, easy "hike", 2 falls to see
Jun 2021
This is a great, quick, easy "hike" to see 2 nice falls. The all boardwalk trail (stairs to upper lookout) is short and easy. The falls are very nice. TIP - go on a weekday if possible. We tried stopping on our way into "the Gap" on Saturday but the main lot was closed and you had to walk a mile + to the trail head (and "fight" the crowd - the parking on Rt. 209 was packed. On Monday we drove top the main lot and there were few people.

Beautiful Falls but Parking Policy Is Ridiculous
Jun 2021
The boardwalk hike to the the two falls is beautiful and not strenuous at all. Ruining the experience is the fact that the big parking lot next to the visitors' center is closed for no reason at all, and visitor must cram into the much smaller and un-maintained roadside lots at the entrance to the forest and walk more than a mile uphill, a challenge for older and disabled people who otherwise would have no trouble enjoyed the boardwalk and falls. A ranger at the entrance said they didn't want a line of cars going up the road to the main lot...so instead there is a line of cars trying to wedge themselves into the much smaller roadside lots. Since the ranger is there anyway, why not let the public use the main lot until it is full and THEN close it off?

Beautiful Waterfall
Oct 2020
This is a popular place to visit I am sure before COVID-19 but since then, it seems to have been closed for many months on and off. We went in October 2020 and it was closed then but you can still park the car at the entrance off the main road and walk to the falls (which adds a 1 mile walk to the parking lot). The hike itself will take another 1-2 hours with beautiful views of the waterfalls. It is well constructed path and has a lot of steps so it is not necessarily disability friendly. Must go if in the area.

The road to the visitor center is closed. You have to park near Rt 209 and walk a mile to the center. The road is paved and it's an easy walk. From there the boardwalk to both Silver Thread and Dingmans Falls is well maintained. Climbing the stair to the top of DF is fine too although the view from the top is not as dramatic.

Formed of siltstone some 390 million years ago during the middle Devonian, Dingman's Falls has been shaped by subsequent glaciers, which ended 20,000 years ago, water, wind and other geological forces. Today, Dingman's Falls has a drop of 130'. It is billed as the second tallest falls in Pennsylvania. Ironically the tallest falls, Raymondskill Falls, 178' tall, is just minutes away off of 209 North.

Dingman's Falls is located just a 10th of a mile from from the Dingman's Bridge. The toll is $1 each way to cross. Once you cross the bridge just turn right. When I arrived early in the morning the 1.2 mile road from route 209 to the Dingman's Visitor Center was chained off. It is a 1.2 mile walk on a paved road surrounded by streams and woods on both sides to the Visitor Center which was closed. From the visitor center a trail will take you to the first falls just 2 minutes away., SilverThread Falls an 8' drop. Signs are posted which state, "stay on the boardwalk". The boardwalk is well maintained and is wheelchair and stroller friendly. From Silver thread to Dingman's Falls a 130' drop, is another 1/4 mile walk on the boardwalk.

Once you arrive at Dingman's Falls the boardwalk ends. Stairs continue on however to a location which provides a view from top to bottom. Dingman's Creek supplies the Falls and can be more clearly seen from the top. The stairs are steep and on the day of my visit icy on the final climb.

Check the National Park Service website for closing of the park / and or road closing. The best time for photography of these two falls would be 3 pm. Unfortunately I arrived to early for the best shots.

I love visiting waterfalls but this was a bust. It is a long walk on a paved road and your can't get anywhere near the falls. There are so many better falls that you can actually get near and really in the woods to get to

Beautiful Falls
Oct 2020
Beautiful Falls in a well maintained and very scenic area. The visitor center and road into the falls was closed, but it was a nice walk on the tree lined road to the trail head. We enjoyed the hike and seeing the leaves fall.

Nice falls if you can walk a ways
Oct 2020
2 beautiful waterfalls that are totally wheelchair accessable. Short, easy walk around the falls, but beware-since covid, the main parking lot is closed, and only a small lot is open by the road. This is to limit the number of people, which is good, since when I was there, very few wore a mask, even though PA is a "mask in public" state. So it's a 1.2mi flat walk to the falls, then 1.2mi back out. There are park service bathrooms that had paper and hand sanitizer, and were clean.

short flat walk
Oct 2020
the park has very limited parking, but we lucked out and got a space. with COVID they have you park on the street and you walk up the long drive way, which is very pretty and has a stream to view. it is a flat walk and very easy to handle. the falls are at the end of a boardwalk, which is a short walk. we went in Oct which is prime time for leaf peepers. it was very pretty to view. the bathrooms were open and the stench from them almost overwhelming, but hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go! we saw people in wheelchair scooters, so is handicapped assessable. nice stroll. took under 2 hours and we took our time.

Lovely spot for a hike
Oct 2020 • Couples
Due to the access road leading to the waterfall in Layton, NJ, I decided to drive over the Dingman’s Ferry Bridge and stumbled upon the parking lot leading to the falls. The access road is closed to traffic, but the walk was lovely (approximately 1/2 mile). We stopped along the way and took some pictures. Once you approach the visitor’s center, there is a wonderful trail leading to the falls. There are picturesque stops as well as benches along the trail. You can actually take a long stairway up and down the side of the mountain which will lead you to the top of the waterfall.

Note: We visited on a beautiful Thursday. Almost every parking space in the lot was occupied by the time we exited at approximately 1:30 PM.
