This is a peaceful place to visit at any time of year. Nice trails. And a great spot for casual birdwatching.

My friend and I chose to visit this garden instead of going to the main botanical garden. I’m so glad we did! There were many Rhododendron still in bloom at this time. There are many other plants throughout the garden, though, that make it lovely. The waking paths are well designed, and there are multiple water features, both natural and man-made. I found the setting very peaceful and relaxing.

Had a great time exploring the gardens and enjoyed the beautiful flowers. Fun to see the ducks and learn about different flowers.

Took a wheelchair-bound friend of mine there, and was that a mistake! Most of the trails were gravel, long path down the the pond. And no sympathy from the staff!

My sister and I booked an AirBnB walking bird watching tour through the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. Our guide, Eric was AMAZING, knowledgeable and very patient. The gardens are lush and gorgeous. It's fall, so no blossoms on the Rhododendrons or azaleas, but there were other wildflowers scattered about. Must've seen 8 or 9 varieties of ducks and geese, hummingbirds flitting about, and other birds. Got to interact with a couole of friendly park guides as well, who knew our guide, and made the experience more fun.
A thoroughly enjoyable, joyful 2 hours.
Highly reccomend a visit, and if you can book Eric through AirB&B Expeiences on their website, you won't be sorry.

I am so glad that I ordered a Portland Tourist Guide even though I've been to Portland more times than I can count. I had no idea this place existed!
I was here in September which unfortunately isn't the best time to see the Rhododendrons bloom. In fact, I only saw a few of them. That being said, I loved my visit and there were a few flowers here and there.
It's an easy place to find in a beautiful area of Portland. Parking is free and the admission is only $5. That is a bargain!
There are a lot of paths and some of them have a sharp incline but nothing too strenuous. Great for walking. I was given a map of the garden but it was kind of small so it was a little hard to follow. However I had no trouble finding my way around. There is a lake behind the gardens with ducks and a golf course behind it. I admit that I did more sitting on the benches and just taking in nature than actual walking but it was so calming and relaxing that I didn't mind at all.
The gardens (despite the lack of blooms) are absolutely beautiful and the staff I encountered were really nice. I ended up buying a mask from the gift shop (which isn't really a gift shop; the items for sale (t-shirts, masks) are at the admission booth).
I hope to come back in the spring when the flowers bloom, but even so this is a beautiful spot any time of year.

We came on a drizzly Monday and it just happened to be free admission that day! Lovely time walking the grounds and seeing all the different colors. Several waterfalls too! Not much parking there but we got lucky and happened upon one car leaving as we came into the lot.

It is very unfortunate the experience I had today at this beautiful place. My complaint is about the hired staff. We were a group of 3 mom's and our children looking forward to today's visit. The staff at the Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden clearly need training on how to speak to the public. The young man, who made nasty assumptions about us 3 mom's visiting with our children were unacceptable. The way in which he spoke to us about our children was done in the most rude way I have ever experienced. I strongly encourage whoever manages the staff at this facility to teach their employees how to properly, kindly, and respectfully speak to the general public with out making nasty assumptions about them and their children. How very unfortunate it is to make preconceived notions about people by being judgemental in the way that was expressed today. We did not end up vising the garden.

This place has very nice paths cross crossing the place. Beautiful scenery. Water features all over. Benches all over the place as well, so you can sit and take it all in. Just stunning to visit on a sunny day.

First off, this site wouldn't allow me to give this area more than a terrible rating - tried several times. As as a visiting non-resident, I really enjoyed this little park. It was very well kept. Other than the wood ducks, their really wasn't much to offer for wildlife photographers, though. A simple photo blind in front of a feeder station would lure in many species to the camera. And, it would be best to get input on it's layout from an actal photographer

For the buds to blooms on the rhodies..... April to first part of August. Yet, anytime is very nice. Even on a rainy day with a great umbrella. It is relaxing and renewing from the busy-ness of life. It is not over crowded, yet well visited. It is nestled near a well established neighborhood and convenient to the city, as well as the suburbs. Bring your camera to capture the beauty of nature.

Hello Jan D,
I noted your post about parking at Crystal Springs Garden.
I am very sorry that someone received a ticket for parking in the bike lane. I would hope that people are aware that parking is NOT allowed in any bike lane in the City of Portland. The garden does have a 'gentleman's agreement' with Reed College to use their parking lot across the street. Be aware that there may be events at the collage and their lot may be full.

I have a group of low-income Seniors that I take out on Fridays to "connect with nature."
Is there a discount for Seniors or perhaps a free day for them to view the garden? Thanks for your information.

There is also no admission charged prior to 10AM, if you can get them there early enough, or after 6PM. The park itself is open dawn to dusk. So you still have an opportunity on Fridays.
my son and his fiancé are getting married there next October. can you recommend a hotel close by (walking distance)?
thanks,
Trisha
